Clear the virus vault?
TBH i haven't had an Anti-Virus software installed for over 5 years and in that time not once have i been infected. If you make a concious effort to monitor what you view & download, there really is no reason to be picking up viruses.

Re: Avg
Folder shares, thumb drives, CD's, being on someone's mailing list that gets infected, , FB links, public networks, file sharing...
These are all things that can take advantage when you let your guard down. Thumb drives btw, do not give you the opportunity to view in advance any potential infections and are already behind your firewall.
So while it IS possible I would be careful in blanket statements to suggest going without security software. You cannot be certain how the computer is used or where.
A compromise between no AV and intrusive AV is to turn off "on-access" and scheduled scans. This gives you something to scan media or downloads with. Imperfect and reactive but better than doing nothing and allows you to at least scan something before sending it to others or submitting it somewhere.

Re: Avg
I didn't say you don't need it, i said that i don't need it as i make sure my laptop is only used in an environment i control. Most of those things you mentioned can also be avoided by using simple caution and paying attention to what you're clicking on.

Re: Avg
Are you just too lazy to click on a single link or what? The answer was given to you, GnandGS even asked you again to click on the link, so what's your deal?
Here are the EXACT steps copy + pasted from that link:
"If you are not missing any data file and your applications are running correctly, you can delete these files from the AVG Virus Vault.
To delete individual files from the AVG Virus Vault:
Open the AVG program.
On the History menu, click Virus Vault.
Select the file you want to delete.
Click Delete.
Or you can delete all AVG Virus Vault contents in one go:
Open the AVG program.
On the History menu, click Virus Vault.
Click Empty Vault."
Now what's not to understand? It's asking if you're sure if you want to delete it. I don't know, DO you want to delete it? Isn't this the purpose of your thread? You wanted to delete it?

Re: Avg
wrathofdeath, Another method is to use a full system image and restore it to a time before the virus got on your system.
Personally I would do what Rishwin stated and GNandGS linked
If you do not have fatih in AVG scan with another program in safe mode such as MSE Is there a way to run MSE in Safe Mode?__Thanks - Microsoft Answers.
