Firstly, why do you even have mcfeces as your ISS? Secondly, do you have another ISS installed? Thirdly, you might want to do a full scan to see if there's no viruses/trojans/malware installed. And Fourthly, if you really do intend on keeing mcfeces, I would do a reinstall and see if that clears things up. Otherwise, good luck dealing with the tech monkeys at mcfeces.

Try running an online virus scan from here: http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
There are cases of the anti virus itself getting infected. A friend of mine has his Norton AV infected years ago.

And I advise of using another anti virus. I'm never a McAfee fan.

McAfee? Ughh. Norton used to be great until it started getting bloated, and slowing systems down like McAfee. If you feel you must pay for protection, look into Kaspersky. It much better than the other two. I use free AVAST on most of my systems, and it's never failed me or slowed my system down.

If you want to BUY a security software, I recommend Kaspersky Internet Security. I love it. It is non-intrusive and works great. I am really against Norton and McAfee.

IMO Norton and McAfee seemed to do a "swap" if you will in terms of the impact on system performance a few years back. McAfee began just throwing in features and more features, and really, really became bloated-One automatic program version upgrade later and my mom's Dell slowed to a crawl. Never again, I vowed.

Norton, OTOH, began slimming down, putting infrequently used features as additional "add-on packs" that could be downloaded from the net (I think NIS 2007 started this) PCMag said they noticed a huge improvement on system performance between NIS 06 and NIS 07.

TBH, I haven't personally used Norton (my aunt and uncle do though and their system running NIS 08 feels decent) AVG 8's ridiculous false positives almost drove me to use McAfee, but the awesome poster's here suggested Avast! or Avira. I now use the latter and have been quite happy ever since.
