Re: The best free antivirus/firewall/anti spyware programs
@ Gonwk,
Comodo has integrated it's new anti virus into a security suite; CIS.
The AV part is still in it's infancy, there's no heuristics f.i.
Q1; Staying with Avira (at least untill the AV part has matured) is the smart thing to do.
Q2; Choice nr. 3 will give you the most protection.
SafeSurf and Memory Firewall are protection tools against buffer overflow attacks. You don't need to install them, they're just extra protection.
With SafeSurf you will also install a Comodo toolbar so I'd choose Memory Firewall from those 2.
Check here for more info on CIS.

Re: The best free antivirus/firewall/anti spyware programs
No you don't need to install those two programs.
For me, I use:
Avira AntiVir Free
ThreatFire
Comodo Firewall without Defense+
Avira is a better choice than Comodo AV. Comodo AV is still new, no heuristic engine yet, and their detection rates are still not near Avira yet..

Hi folks,
@ Baserk ... THANKS again ... and appreciate the Site URL ... very helpful.
@ KarenA ... I would have used Threatfire ... but unfortunately my laptop came with 64-bit ... so, basically I am SOL'ed (S**t Out of Luck)!

smitfraudfix is a VERY powerful little tool. i run it at least once a month just to check for things. it will give you a log and tell you if it finds anything. if so run it and it will 99.99% (imo) kill it i have found smitfraudfix to be one of the only tools to kill many things nothing and i mean nothing else i did would.. if it doesnt find anything no need to run clean (step 2)
