I believe he was saying (ok, in a slightly odd way, and good for him LOL) that suggesting that NOD might not be working because it wasn't giving notification of anything was like " . . . you don't have AIDS . . . " Not sure I'd have said something quite like that, but do think the comment made logical sense.
