I downloaded and installed the Samsung "Quick Starter" - a "Start Button" replacement for the Windows 7 Start Button in Windows 8. I find the user interface is a bit "odd", but the biggest issue was that it really bogged down the system, completely halting it for 10-20 seconds at a time. I've uninstalled it now.
I found this: Start8 Start8 for Windows® 8 - Bringing back the Windows Start menu
It's an amazing start button replacement for Windows 8 - more features than the one in Windows 7 had, and is, IMHO, perfect! It's not free, but it's only $4.99 (almost free :) )
You can try a 30-day free trial as well.
I have it installed now, and it's working great.
btb32: Thanks for the info, and let me know if you can get your hands on the driver. If you can't find it, can you give me the inf or something? The only mention of "Airplane Mode Control Driver" I can find is this thread.
Carlos07pt: Nope, not USB3.
Is the Cyberlink Youcam camera driver available from Samsung or does it come with Windows 8? I know it wasn't available for download from the website for Windows 7.
Thanks for that.
Another question -
Since the Windows 8 install, the difference between my min and max brightness is 1 level, even if I slide the bar all the way up or down. And the max brightness is extremely low, I can't use it outside anymore.
Anyone had this issue?
Edit: Fixed it - the auto brightness feature was causing issues
It controls the hardware switch for Airplane mode, also known as 'Radio HID Mini-driver'
I have been running Windows 8 since the day the RTM was realeased and everything worked just fine. Two days ago Samsung SW update popped up with the suggestion to update a whole bunch of stuff like the BIOS and display drivers. Happily surprised to discover that Samsung seems to be supporting Windows 8 allready I proceeded with the updates only to discover that the display brightness now cannot be changed anymore: It is stuck on it's brightest level which, on this notebook, is very, very bright.
Can anybody help me? I allready contacted Samsung but the only thing they can say is that I have to update the display driver with the version on their website (which would be a downgrade since the version on their website is from April 2012).
I'm really stuck here, is there anybody here who experienced similar behaviour?
