Default ghost keystrokes when using touchpad NP700Z5A-S0AUS

So I thought I was going crazy seeing extra "z"s, usually in command prompt windows. Then I noticed that if I move my thumb down from the very top of the touchpad, or from above it, the cursor doesn't move but a "z" is sent to the active window. I also discovered that if I move my thumb left from the very right of the touchpad, a "c" is sent, but that hasn't happened while I'm actually using the laptop, since my thumb is usually over the spacebar.

Is this happening to anyone else? I just got the laptop a week ago, did all the windows updates, updated BIOS to 13FD, and updated all the Samsung software and drivers. I didn't notice the ghost keystrokes until a couple of days ago, but dismissed it at first thinking I had just accidentally hit the "z" key.

Touchpad settings are One-Finger: Tapping, Drag and Drop Release after finger lift, Scroll Inertial Scroll; Two-Finger: Scroll Inertial Scroll, Zoom; Three-Finger: Swipe; Four-Finger: Swipe.

    Touchpad driver 10.7.13.1.

    Thanks-

    Sean

I booted in safe mode and the problem went away, so I rebooted normally and started killing processes with task manager until it quit happening. The culprit is ETDCtrl.exe, which has the description ETD Control Center. When I kill it the touchpad seems to work normally, except that I can't zoom.

If this isn't happening to anyone else, I wonder it it is an interaction with something else I'm running. I'll kill other processes and see if I can get it to stop.

I killed most other processes but the issue only stops when I kill ETDCtrl.exe. I disabled ETDCtrl.exe by moving it to another folder and rebooting, and the issue goes away, but so does scrolling, along with zooming. I don't mind about zooming, but I need scrolling. I guess I'll call Samsung and see if they can figure anything out.

I have the exact same problem with my series 9! (NP900X3B)

I think it only started happening when I upgraded to the latest touchpad driver, but I'm not positive as I did that fairly soon after getting my hands on it.

I might try rolling back my driver this evening to see if I can verify whether it only happens with the latest version.

Please let me know if you get anywhere with Samsung.

Paddy- I had already tried uninstalling ETDWare PS/2-X64 10.7.13.1_WHQL and reinstalling, but last night I uninstalled it, rebooted, then reinstalled it, and the issue went away. I can't remember exactly what I had done before the problem started, so I'm not sure this is a permanent fix, but so far, so good.

I use it to adjust the sensitivity, although to tell you the truth I don't notice much difference...
But the two finger scroll works fine, the one finger edge scroll does not work here.
And I never saw stray letters generated.

Hi guys. Someone put a link to this thread in another thread I've been following and I got pretty excited. Until this morning I was under the impression that I was the only one with this issue.

I've been experiencing this with my new Series 9 (NP900X3B-A01us). I've determined that this only happens with the newest firmware (10.17.13.1). After contacting Samsung and explaining all the steps I've taken to isolate the issue, they told me I should send it in for service and would not provide me with the older drivers so that I could downgrade. My solution was to restore the whole machine to factory setup and update/install everything except for the new touchpad driver. Not ideal, as I feel the scrolling and cursor motion was a little smoother with the newer driver, but the random Z's and C's popping up all over was a much bigger deal.

I might try the uninstall/reboot/install method mentioned above, but only after I backup the machine as is. I don't want to set up the entire machine again (I must have done it 5 times by now!).

My problem was solved by uninstalling the driver, rebooting, then reinstalling. The only difference I can think of is that the first time I installed the new driver I did it straight on top of the old one. This second time I was installing on top of the basic mouse driver that comes with windows by default (I think).

Anyway, it worked, I am no longer inputting 'z' and I have reclaimed the top half-inch of my touchpad.
