Oh I doubt there will only be 2 skus, but I was hoping that at least one of the ones at launch would have 256gb ssd.

I have a feeling that the next round of skus will be Ivy Bridge ones, which means we'll have to wait a bit. Which is unfortunate, because that'll probably put them in direct competition with the refreshed 15" Macbook Air.

I noticed the Ivy for ulv cpu's have the same wattage as the current sandybridge, so would there really be any battery savings? The cpu's are slightly faster, but doesn't look like much.

That is TDP, an arbitrary value that does not reflect the real power used. It is a guide for manufacturers' thermal design. There will be power savings.

Noticed this very interesting piece of information.
Samsung is releasing a Series 7 Gaming laptop with IVY BRIDGE.
    It's up for pre-order now.
It that laptop is shipping soon with Ivy Bridge, shouldn't that mean that the
Samsung Series 9 2012 model will ship with Ivy Bridge too since it's their flagship Model?
    I really. really hope so.
A series 9 with Ivy Bridge right from the start would be my perfect laptop.

Ivy Bridge would be too nice to come true...

    Samsungs Spec-Page says: Gpu: HD3000 --> Sandy Bridge =(

I'm still looking forward to seeing this Series 9, but I saw the 14" Series 5 today at BestBuy and liked it very much.

I see today that JR has the 15-inch up for pre-order. CDW also has it listed. Amazon has the 13-inch "Out of stock", but you will be notified when they have it in.

However, all of them only show 128 GB SSD, not the 256 GB. Nor are there any options for an i7, just the i5.

Does anyone know of some later updates?

Speaking of places to preorder, does anyone know the best place for samsung?
I ordered from JR pretty much on day 1 but that don't mean a thing if they don't get it right away.
Example: Amazon has listed the refreshed 7 series as 1-2 months, but tigerdirect/circuitcity have been selling it for a week now.

About other skus, I contacted Samsung three times asking questions in various manners trying to find out if and when they'd have this with a bigger ssd. They wouldn't say.

I think I said this upthread, but I do think they're going to tie other skus to ivy bridge, so bigger SSD + ivy bridge for a top-shelf item.

Interestingly, if you look at how they priced last year's Series 9, you'd expect a 256gb ssd alone to be roughly $300 more than the comparable 128ssd. mSATA ssd's haven't really been falling that much.

So I would think a 15" 256gb ssd + IB is going to be 1999 at minimum. Which makes me want to wait for Apple's refreshed 15" Air/Pro, because with the 256gb Air at 1599 right now, I suspect they could move all the prices down a notch and sell the 15" at that price point. Which would really take the legs out from under Samsung.

    Just speculation though.
