Clevo CPU User-Upgrade Experience/Feedback
We see a lot of threads about GPU upgrades. Anyone here manually replace/upgrade their CPU before and willing to share experience?
Laptop in question is p150hm (Sager np8150, MALIBAL Lotus, etc), but I figured the process is similar across the board so any feedback is appreciated.
I am considering purchasing a 2860qm/2960xm CPU to swap out with my 2630qm. I figured this laptop has two or three good years left and upgrading the CPU would keep it performing nicely.
Things I am interested in hearing about are where you got CPU, how much, what was process of installing like, and how much boost you got with upgrade. I am very familiar with computer hardware so the actual procedure I am not concerned about, but I have never done a CPU swap for Clevo.
Thank you!

Ohh. What are the possibilities of fitting a p150em mobo in p150hm? Lol. I'm shooting for stars now I know.

Re: Clevo CPU User-Upgrade Experience/Feedback
hey there,
i actually swapped out my 2720qm with my current 2860qm in my p150hm machine, so very similar situation like you
id recommend that cpu over a 2960XM, since the extreme editions are only worth their money if u can actually make use of the unlocked multipliers (thats only possible in the P170HM, but not the P150HM). i was lucky in getting a nice deal on ebay for around 320€ (regular price at that time was approx. 550€). selling my 2720qm for 150€ i ended up just paying 170€ for the new cpu
if ure familiar with computer hardware the actual swap shouldnt be a biggie for you. its pretty much just taking off the back cover (4 screws), taking off the cpu heatsink (4 screws), swap the cpu, apply new TIM, reinstall heatsink/back cover and off u go
itll be done in like 10 minutes, tops.
concerning performance boost, dont expect too much if ure mainly out for gaming. as for cpu-intensive tasks u can expect something like +10-20%.
possibility = zero, unless u figure out a way to fit the differing P150EM mobo connectors to the P150HM chassis (dremel anyone? lol)
