NP9130, NP9150, NP9170 advice

Hi,

I'm looking at these three Sager models from xoticpc. I was wondering how people's experiences are with them. Are these good laptops?

I'm especially interested in cooling and heat. My current laptop seems to get very hot and freezes occasionally. I'm trying to find a laptop that does not have overheating issues. I plan to play some games on this and am trying to find something reliable. Are these laptops good for gaming (Diablo III currently) or will they overheat and lock up?

The other things I'm interested in is screen quality and viewing angles. How do these laptops fare?

I know this is a Sager forum, but are there any other brands out there that you might choose over Sager? I'm also looking at the Lenovo Y series.

the sager may have some heat, but wont heat up to the point that it freezes up. but like every other laptop, you do have to clean it regularly to avoid dust building up in the vents. if you do that then you shouldnt have too much problem with heating. you can play games like battlefield 3 and crysis 2, so diablo 3 wont be a issue

These laptops have great cooling. They have two fans, one for the CPU and one for the GPU blowing out hot air to help keep the computer cool. If you are going to be using one of these for gaming, overheating shouldn't be an issue providing that you clean out the dust from the fins of the heat sinks regularly. The heat sinks are easily accessible through removal of the back cover unlike many laptops out there. I definitely recommend one of these laptops over the Lenovo Y series if overheating is what worried you the most.

The screens are great. I have the standard stock screen for the NP9130 and it's definitely better than your average laptops. The 95% gamut screen does have better viewing angles than the stock screen, but you should do your own research to help you determine whether the upgrade is worth the extra cost or not.

I've often been burnt in the past when I buy a laptop based on good reviews and then when I have issues with them I search online and find out it has common issues. My current laptop has an overheating issue and it absolutely kills usability so that's what I'm worried about for now.

Is the 95% gamut screen an IPS screen or something? If I configure it at xoticpc I'd probably go with the matte 95% gamut screen. The screen is pretty important to me...

U can always get a laptop cooler if your current laptop is suffering from cooling issues.

So if this is a pure gaming laptop you might want to allocate that $ to something else.

Beyond cooling issues my current laptop is 4+ years old and just won't play newer games very well. I can play SCII on medium settings and Diablo III on the lowest settings. I'm hoping to get something that will play both games on high settings.

That is good to know and I didn't know that. I'm not a huge gamer. I just play a select game or two over the course of the year. I don't mind if the colors aren't perfect in games as long as they are reasonable. I'll read more about this. Maybe I don't really need the upgrade.

I'm more concerned about the viewing angles and brightness. My current machine has not so great viewing angles and the brightness is poor.
