    If you have $500 to spend... why not save it for another system that would be more future proof for performance and upgrades.

    ... or you can just get the barebones of a nice mid-range gaming notebook for under $500.

    A Nvidia 9600M GT will definitely beat out your old Nvidia 6800.

    And you can install your RAM and HDD in there with no issues... just need to get a CPU.
