Have mine under RMA, will update when I get it back. Installing windows yields a BSOD at the same spot every time trying to install windows the dvd I originally set it up with. Will update as more progresses. Limited to my Asus Transformer tab for the time being haha.
BSOD every time you install? Oh god, sounds terrible

Albeit as it may, theres not a whole lot I need the notebook for atm necessarily, although itd be nice (especially to test drive CS6) but whatever haha. Im sending it out for RMA tomorrow, we'll see what happens. At least it doesnt BSOD after each install, it just saves me time and does it when booting the very initial steps of installation.

I too am getting concerned about the stability of the P170. Besides the various bugs mentioned there were several posts about the lack of sturdiness and the fragility of it when transporting it. Can some of the people recently acquiring their laptop comment on this as well? While I plan to do some gaming this laptop will be a work laptop toted from home to the office and to meetings. Have I chosen the wrong laptop in my quest to get a high powered laptop for development?

Yes, if you've got a P170EM on the way with an AMD 7970m then I'd recommend going to Clevo, pull down the "P150EM/P151/EM/P170EM", Driver = vga and download a copy ready to go for your install. I don’t know if some vendors are updating their drivers and if you have an OS with your machine maybe they’ve pre-installed the driver for you. For me, from my reseller, the Radeon drivers were not on the disk and I purchased my system with an empty hard drive, i.e., no OS.

I've just got the system to a point where I've got all my Office products loaded, Windows updates and testing the base configuration to feel everything is stable and ready. Later today I'll clone the drive and then start to install ACAD and bunches of other software that I use and see if I can put it through its paces as this machine is needed to do work. Maybe a couple games, but like a recovering druggy or something – I’d rather keep this system away from the evils of video games until I get caught up on work. :-)

‘Spent a lot of time playing with the finger reader as I've never really used one. Pretty cool. I think the software is very solid and featured, however 1/2 the battle is me learning to use it and swipe the way it wants to read and the other 1/2 tells me it's not the best sensor or something must be buggy with my sensor - but this is my first experience with a finger scanner and the scanner and I have yet to go toe to toe and see who wins.

Other immediate impressions; The Glossy screen is bright and beautiful. Indoors I don’t see any glare issues at all. I actually used this thing for a full lengthy battery. Being I was a P270 dual PSU candidate – I wasn’t expecting to use the new laptop on batteries. The Radeon video power management is a welcome feature in this regard and I am overly pleased with the battery life to surf or play around until you plug in for a while. BlueRay/DVD drive bugs me because it doesn’t line up flush. It’s cosmetic, but something that just bothers me. I may take some access covers off later and see what’s going on. I expect better tolerances. Keyboard lights are cool and the 2.5 year old girl was impressed, too. Beautiful machine overall and I may peel off the resellers sticker as to me that’s like getting a new car and having the dealer put their sticker or license plate cover on the back of your car. I disabled from the BIOS their splash screen, too. “I understand, but it just annoys me.” No issues with keys yet and the keyboard feels good and responsive.

No stability issues. When CD disk was readying I was moving laptop on chair, dangling USB cable with remote drive, etc. - normal abuse from me to laptop. This machine is gonig to be mobile and moving while on so I'm not holding back at all and I'm not the slightest bit concerned.

    7.2 Overall Experience score
    7.6 Processor – i7-3720QM
    7.7 Memory – 16GB 1600
    7.2 Graphics Aero
    7.2 Game Graphics
    7.9 HDD – SSD

5.28.2012 Update: The DVD drive not lining up flush ended up being the outer snap cover of the drive itself. The DVD drive would have been installed by the reseller and the fact that the piece was not snapped in was probably just an oversite. A bit of press and snap and it is in place and lines up perfectly.

Can you point me to these? My P170HM is a tank, and the EM is basically the same exact chassis.

I was unpacking my van, and the laptop bag (with machine inside) fell a literal 7-8 feet, onto the concrete parking lot. It's still working perfectly today, despite a small crack in the chassis.

I wouldn't say so. I've been through a lot of high end laptops over the years. They've all had their quirks. This is a new release. I listed a couple items that are really surface annoyances. The machine overall feels quite sturdy and appears well built. No matter what it is, I'll always find some flaw or annoyance - that may be different than the next guy. I think Sager/Clevo has a pretty good name out there and everyone with issues will be taken care of by their resellers or Clevo. And the issues coming to surface aren’t long term failure issues, their flaws that are best found early and get resolved so that these guys can enjoy a long relationship with their machine. You're getting a lot of laptop for a good price. If you feel nervous, by all means, spend more money for an AW and feel better. Because sometimes when two identical or very similar items are presented but one has a higher price, often times by paying more someone may feel like they are buying more. Kinda like the placebo effect. I haven't read of any issues in this thread that are show stoppers. "Up to you." I’m very happy with the $2,300 investment and haven’t looked back for a millisecond.
