Initial impressions...it's sharp-looking and crazy fast. It's smaller than my old 17" Gateway which I like and maybe a little lighter. The matte screen is just awesome. I was afraid that edges of text and graphics would look blocky but that isn't the case at all. It's VERY bright, too. I'm definitely glad I got the matte screen with consideration to where I'll be using it most - areas with outdoor glares.

With my underwater video business, using Sony Vegas 11...what used to take me 1 hour and 45 minutes to encode with the Core 2 Duo Gateway lappy (1920x1080 HD video) now takes me 12 MINUTES. Ohhhhhh yeah!!!!! And I haven't OC'd yet!

I do see a minor video driver issues that I imagine will pass once better drivers come out. Using 301.34 (with modified .inf) from laptopvideo2go, I see one faint translucent vertical line on the screen that wasn't there when I installed Win 7 x64. It remains there no matter what application I have open. I'm using the latest Intel 4000 driver from Sager's website, dated May 1. Appreciate a fix if anyone has the same problem or suspects what it may be.

The keyboard is great once you get used to a few key positions, like Delete, etc. But I've found that's to be expected with any new keyboard. The keys feel great.
Appreciate the report, especially since one of my primary uses, as I debate between the 150EM and 170EM, is video editing (Powedirector 10 here.) The idea that a two hour encode on my Dell M1710 (dual core, nVidia 7950 GTX) with a 1080p res could be reduced to less than 15 minutes makes me drool!

Also looking at the Matte screen but worried about it being only 72% NTSC instead of the 90% on the 15 inch model made me worry it may be a lower quality screen, and also worried about it looking dull (used to glossy screens.) But would love to have less glare in some conditions. The line does worry me - keep us updated.

Make bootables, install windows. Everything can be downloaded and stored on a thumb drive. The only time my dvd player gets used is when i accidentally hit the button to open it. I use 3 thumb drives: 8GB bootable for windows7 (also has seger drivers). 2GB for ms dos bootable (flashing bios), and a 16gb for transferring stuff back and fourth from the work computer to the new one. I'd like to see larger GB USb 3.0 drive prices come down.

On a second thought, the money you would save from the bd drive, msata and the media will buy 15 or so 16GB flash drives.

There is way more demand for the 15.6" screens, that's why there are more options.
Good thoughts, thanks. But as much as I use the BD burner - a main use of the machine is video editing and then disc burning - I hate the idea of having to lug an external drive around. Hmmm.

Does anyone have any ideas or experiences relative to the quality of the Matte screen on the P170EM vs. the Matte screen on the P150EM?

    Thanks.

Hello, I'm about to order this laptop. I have one question about which ssd I should get. I can choose among these three:

Intel 330 Series 120 GB SSD
Intel 520 Series 120 GB SSD
Plextor M3 Pro 128 GB SSD

I will have my OS installed on it aswell as some games. I will use a 750gb 7200rpm for storage of other files.

Which one should I choose? Which one is the best for me? I don't care how much they are, I just want the best.

    Thanks

Looks like you subconsciously made up your mind. 170... Its a load to carry around as well. It lug mine around in a swiss gear ibex backpack. It barely fits in the designated compartment, but there is a ton of other room. If you went with the 150, you wouldn't notice the burner was in that backpack.

I opted for just the 750gb and did the rest myself. There are some good deals on SSD's right now. I got my samsung 830 128gb for $140 including tax. Just requires creating a flashable usb. Other bands are sub $1 a gig.
