    Hey,

I let my friend over sea's post from my account he was having issues creating a new account there.

He was more looking for what processor/ram/screen etc combo you would recommend. He is ok with waiting for the 7970 and would like to keep it around 2k.

Also does anyone know if the charging port is on the right or left hand side?

    Thanks for the help.

Is the mSata drive's caching capabilities even gonna be used, if I have 2 raided SSD's as the boot drive? I asked that question around the office and no one could give me a strait answer... :-\
The mSATA is slower than the duel SSD's in raid 0, by a lot. Even if you only had one SSD @ sata 3, it would still be superior by 2 fold because the mSATA is limited to sata 2.
So yes the mSATA in your setup was a waste of money, if anything it would slow your system down if it relied on that drive for caching.

    MSata + mechanical = good, msata + SSD's@ sata3 = bad.

Hope that helps you out some

Ahhh. Got the shipping tracking number for my NP9170. It'll be in my sweaty hands on Monday. Finally...the wait will be over that started with a pre-order in early-March of a NP9270 that I cancelled in mid-April because of delays.

For anyone interested, here's my timeline with XoticPC for the 9170.

    Ordered: April 17
    Phase 2 (Custom Building): April 18 - April 30
    Phase 3 (Additional Customization - Matte Screen): May 1 - May 4
Overnight Shipping: May 4 - May 7 (UPS weekend)

Primary purpose for the laptop - to run Sony Vegas Pro 11 (x64) for my video encoding/DVD business.
Secondary purpose - occasional gaming. Looking forward to CnC Generals 2 due out next year.

Everything in the Signature minus the mSATA OCZ came out to be $1888 @ XoticPC (w/ shipping). The mSATA was bought on NewEgg (90 bucks w/ shipping) not Xotic, as Xotic only offers Intel solutions for mSata at a cost I didn't want to pay. (Total for both $1978)

Secondly he will get a Military discount (35 dollars) if he signifies he is Military in his order at Xotic, and to ship to APO AE address's it will cost 64 dollars going through USPS. So keep that in mind with the set-up and final cost.

Thirdly if he is waiting on the 7970, that will increase the price by another 100 dollars by everything I have in the Siggy. (100 more than 675m @ Xoticpc)

    Hope that helps some.

Tbo, dont go for 1866 memory. The difference there between 1333/1600/1866 is nanoseconds and a few extra points in 3d Mark 11. DDR3 1333 is already fast enough for anything one could do. I only went with 1600 because that was Xotic's only option at the time and I dont wanna bother with pulling the entire laptop apart to put in my own DIMMS.

The 2 raided ssd's will be a huge performance gain, but the mSata is going to bottleneck it. Especially with the intel chips, they limit at 70MB/s write, so it wont even matter that the SSD's can consistently do 5x+ that. Besides that, with 2 SSD's, the mSata still has at most half the read speed of the 2 SSD's, and thats if they are low end budget ones. Its more for someone (like me fo example) that wants/needs the big storage, but can benefit from SSD like speeds. Even if you want to go for the cache, there are much better drives than the Intel 310, like the OCZ Nocti.

Intel: 200MB/s sequential read, 70MB/s sequential write (35MB/s for 40gb version)
OCZ: 280MB/s sequential read, 255MB/s sequential write, both do about the same IOPS for random 4k read/write (~12,500 write).

Having cache drive with SSD makes no sense to me since it's usually slower than the SSD itself.
I'd go with 256Gb (512Gb)+HDD. This usually works the best for most users -you get fast SSD and plenty of storage and is cheaper as well.

Also curious, is there a special way to enable audio over hdmi on the P170EM? I dont see HDMI in the audio devices anywhere, although I have yet to be able to test it.

The notes on it are "Vague" at best. At face value all it really seems to have added was support for the GTX 670 & 690. It's the same driver as 301.32 + whatever fixes they could include in what looks to be a 4 day turn around.

For simple fail safe's it's always wiser to have the newest version of any beta driver, as the flaws in the build before it may or may not have been fixed in the newest version.
Especially if your running the newest mobile card out by that company.
