What are you going to use the laptop for?

4x4 is better, and cheaper. 2x8 isn't needed.

1600MHz works fine, slightly faster than the 1333MHz ram modules, but nothing noticeable

I'd go with 2x8 as 4x4 is not better, plus going 2x8 allows you to upgrade more easily in the future.

I have spent the last few days constantly researching different laptops and looking through this thread. I'm pretty sure I will be going through Xotic, but not entirely sure. This issue with the 7970m is a real bummer though. I've only read through the first 40 pages of this thread, and didn't recall seeing anything about the heat output. I'm curious as to how warm the computer runs when gaming for long periods of time and whether or not it would be worth getting the IC Diamond thermal paste.
If anyone can answer this I would greatly appreciate it. I game on my lap and I need to know how hot it really gets underneath after a while and if I really need a fan/pad and how loud it gets as well. Also, is the IC diamond thermal paste worth it? All of these questions are with a 7970m at stock. It's already a beast card don't think it needs to be over clocked lol.

    Thanks

I game on my lap all the time. You shouldn't have a problem, just try not to block the vents either on the bottom or the back. It's not really very hard. As for the IC Diamond, it's worth it whether you plan to OC or not.

It has arrived! I've just unboxed it so far. Aesthetics are top notch. It looks sleek for a DTR. I must give kudos to Mythlogic for the packaging. It was surrounded by three boxes with the outer box containing peanuts. Inside the final box the laptop was cradled in two styrofoam supports. The battery and power brick (literally the size of a brick!) were neatly packed inside the laptop bag furnished with the laptop, contained in styrofoam slice with cutouts designed specifically for those objects. The styrofoam was designed to fit perfectly in the laptop bag and reinforced by two pieces of cardboard. The included discs were safely stowed in a Mythlogic branded disc wallet, not thrown in some paper sleeve. I'm looking forward to turning it on and trying it out.

Is that with the Sager or your current laptop? Have you received your Sager or are you just assuming it will be the same? Sorry I just really need to know.

I would say the cheapest, but choose whatever you feel is right kingston and corsair are one of the best on the market.

That's with my current Sager, not the P170EM. It should be the same though. The P170EM has better cooling than my current Sager and the setup is more or less the same. It's not ideal to game on your lap by any means, but it won't hurt anything. If you're really worried, monitor your temps. Clevos/Sagers have great cooling. Don't sweat the small things so much.
