I'm not sure why your windows dvd wouldn't be booting up first if you specified it in the bios. Have you tried booting into ubuntu linux and formatting the drive from that?

It sounds like you are coming from a desktop and not used to laptop BIOS. All laptop BIOS are very limited.

If you have the boot order the way you want it, then it will boot from the 1st device in your boot order that contains an OS that is sound and not corrupted.

ntrain96, I just tried this on an NP8180 and it worked so please give it a shot. Start the comptuer, F2 to get into the BIOS, arrow over to Boot. Go down to the SSD and F5 to move it up the boot order. You should place it as number 2 after the ODD. If that doesn't work you can try to reformat the drive with Vista on it so it stops booting from it.

it sucks from the downside so sucks all dust into the cooling.

opend mine today and found my cooling full with dust :P

    btw the cooling is good,
but when u full load the both vga's it reaches 92c.
it isnt overheat but its pretty hot !
First off it's been quite a few days since I've posted on the site. 'Why?' You might ask - because I've been 'crackin-out' on all these games on my new laptop!!!
So I have played these games all on MAX or ULTRA settings without a problem of any kind from the laptop itself or issues with the graphics not being able to handle the load.

    Skyrim (SLI)
Battlefield 3 (SLI on ULTRA - so beautiful)
Star Wars: The Old Republic (no need for SLI even on HIGH settings)
    Left for Dead 2 (SLI)
    Metro 2033 (SLI)
    Witcher 2 (SLI)

As far as heat goes this laptop cools very well but most def when you're running the SLI for extended periods of time you feel the heat flowing out the back. Playing Battlefield 3 for a while with the SLI I saw 71C-81C. Despite that I've heard a great Cooling Pad for this laptop would be the Cooler Master NotePal U3. I'm seriously thinking about getting one in the future if I feel it to be necessary - even if it's just for peace of mind.
I am extremely pleased with my laptop and so far no problems what-so-ever, everything from installing the Drivers to Windows 7 to Programs and ofcourse the Games - no problems, nothing but smiles when I'm playing any game on MAX settings - and thats all I wanted!!!

Feel free to ask or comment...

    @VAL@NBR

you been trying to oc this beast or not?
since skyrim on ultra gives me 30-40 fps i tryd to up it a bit by using msi afterburner.
brought me 10fps higher after that the driver crashes if i go higher clock rates ^^

    btw,
it has 3 sata3 connectors right?
thats what my reseller told me but my intel rapid storage says its on 3gb/sec so sata 2?
bit strange since my ssd is sata 3 and my reseller told me the laptop was sata 3,
only the cd driver should be sata 2

Thanks for posting this. Alot of people here got theres with the 6990's and while I may upgrade to them later but I got the 560's. I plan on playing all of thoes plus newer titles such as GW2, Kingdoms of amalur, crysis2 ect. With what you said I think I will be extreemly happy with mine (due by 3pm today, its 5am I doubt I'll be able to sleep today for work lol). My old gateway fx laptop died and it was my only gaming comp. going from a dual core with 4gig ddr, gforce 9800m and windows vista to this should be....amazing? lol. Well that and I have been playing SWTOR on a laptop with a core i3-370m, 4gig ddr3 and intel HD graphics lol.

Anyway back on topic I'm sure its diffrent from seller to seller but should I expect to be installing almost everything myself from the get go? From drivers to windows7 ect or do most retailers do that for me? Also, are there any drivers you have found for the 560's that seem to not work well with this paticular laptop or are the latest ones working fine? I know one set of drivers would cause problems for the 6990.

go for the beta driver 290.53

it works good for me without any problems.
and has allot of performance boosts on the newest games
i run skyrim everything maxed out really everything on max at 40-50 fps or something.

for the 6990 are some driver problems but you gotta find the correct one otherwise you get problems, thats i prefered dual 560 then ati :P i dont like ati that much cus of the driver crap.
my old xxodd 9270d with ati 5165 always got the 4650 driver and never worked properly without the reseller driver.

even the 6990 has its limits, it stays laptop not a computer.
the diffrence between 560 and 6990 aint worth the 350$ for me atleast.

maybe il upgrade later to something better but still i can everything on ultra without any problems.

Have you tried Batman: Arkham City yet? Or has anyone with the 560's? If so what settings are you running it at with acceptable framerates(20+ is acceptable to me, its what I'm used to getting and its single player). ALso have you or anyone else tried any DX11 with it and how does it run? Sorry. I'm just really excited and who better to ask than people who own this beast? I really shouldnt be this hyper and excited at 29yrs old lol.

Just out of curiosity: Do you switch SLI on/off before/after starting a heavy application?

I normally leave SLI switched on all the time because a reboot is required to change this setting. I only switch it off when I go into battery mode and as soon as I go into AC/DC mode, I switch it on again. Would it be better to switch it off when not really needed?
