Re: **OFFICIAL W860CU/NP8690 Owners Lounge**
Hm my HDMI works and I get sound from the DVI as expected.
Transfer speeds with two quite ordinary disks is just above 110 MB/s. The update plans include a dual SSD setup
... and a 6970m.
Too bad I haven't been able to use the mini PCIe port for a USB3 controller. The mini PCIe "sandard" is a hoax - just about any configuration is possible for the hardware manufacturers, using the very same physical contact

Re: **OFFICIAL W860CU/NP8690 Owners Lounge**
I do not think that the HDSPA/TV "mini PCIe" port can be used for that. Once I had fitted the physical contact, I tested five mini PCIe cards and none of them was detected. I will possibly look further into this issue with the help of some BIOS hackers to see if we have a very short white list...
I would save my money for smarter upgrades.

Thanks! I guess SSD + HDD in ODD is the way to go.
How do you guys think the motherboard will handle the power draw from an overclocked 920xm and a 6970m? I'm not talking about the PSU, which obviously will have to be 180w, but the motherboard itself. How will it handle it?
I see the 920xm are dropping fast in price on ebay, and I am looking to upgrade come fall. I'm just not sure if the w860cu will handle all the power draw, and perhaps a 6970m is enough in itself? I even considered switching to a 620m, which is only 45W but same or better performance as the 720qm, to be on the safe side. However if it can handle an overcoked 920xm and a 6970m it would be awesome
EDIT:
kingkong: wherer did you get the 6970m from btw?

Re: **OFFICIAL W860CU/NP8690 Owners Lounge**
You know that a raid with ssd's is overkill for the diskdrive slot? its only sata150 (if I am not mistaking ofc)
@ kingkong8
Can your cooling hold 3.33ghz with your 920xm?
Mine cant go further then 2.2ghz on all cores the temps go up to 87+ celsius and thats even with a notebook cooler with 4 fans directly blowing in the cpu fan.
I have benchmarked 3d mark vantage at 3.33ghz but it gets up to 93c, but real 3d rendering like 3ds max is not possible it gets way too hott for long term use.
The termal paste I have is artic silver 5 and applied it to the whole chip.W860CU|CPU:i7 920XM @ 2.6ghz|GPU:6970@830mhz|RAM:2x8gb 1333mhz|HDD1:500GB|HDD2:1TB|3dmark11:P3738|180W AC

Re: **OFFICIAL W860CU/NP8690 Owners Lounge**
Actually i never used it in gaming, i set it for benchmarking only. 1 g0t those figures with 90degreesC +, i am afraid to fried my cpu so Now i am using default/stock speed. The key there is PSU, in my stock 120W i always got bsod. Now with 180W i can push multiplier beyond its limits but as what i have said i used it for benchmarking only. 920xm is overkill so need to overclock.@ kingkong8
