Re: **OFFICIAL W860CU/NP8690 Owners Lounge**
I am lovin my 8690! I've compared the 1080p screen to a
sager 5690
gateway 15.4" (forgot which model)
macbook pro 15.4"
and in my eyes it looks superior to all those screens and is easily the brightest as well. The whites and blacks look great imho.Sager NP 8690

Re: **OFFICIAL W860CU/NP8690 Owners Lounge**
I have not tried the battery yet. I'll try today after work. I keep my laptop plugged in 90% of the time and running most of the time so battery life was not a concern for me. My last sager 5690 was always plugged in all the time and was on almost 24/7. 5 Years later it's still running! Construction on the 8690 looks even better. The materials of the laptop give it a very sturdy feel.

Re: **OFFICIAL W860CU/NP8690 Owners Lounge**
I think the viewing angles are okay but I'd need a better reference point to make a definitive determination. Others that have access to multiple newer lcds may provide a better comparison. If you're planning on doing professional photo work or adjust color balances an external monitor is still your best choice but that's goes with most laptop displays.
I dunno if the lcd they use is the same as the one in your asus. Perhaps it is and perhaps you're more critical about displays than me. I have not seen an RGB LED screen but they are considered one of the best displays for laptops. If you're expecting something close to that I suspect this screen will disappoint you. I've been subjected to crappy screens for a long time so this thing looks beautiful to me

Re: **OFFICIAL W860CU/NP8690 Owners Lounge**
How're the temperatures on the CPU? I've talked to a reseller rep, and it looks like the 80+ CPU temperatures are not usual for the notebook.
And I'm not even going to ask about the GPU temperature, since we all know it's going to be excellent.

Re: **OFFICIAL W860CU/NP8690 Owners Lounge**
I basically ran it how I would use it in a real world setting. Listened to mp3's (about 30 minutes) while browsing the web, checked email, watched a few youtube videos...etc I had it on my lap the entire time and it wasn't at all uncomfortable or hot. I was wearing shorts so part of the laptop was resting right on my skin.
70 minutes before it went into hibernation (about 5%)
Some other settings:
-Power saving setting
-turned brightness all the way down
-using a 120GB SSD instead HDSager NP 8690
