Re: Sager NP2096 Owners Lounge
How does the NP2096 compare to the MSI GX620?
I can't decide what to buy!

Re: Sager NP2096 Owners Lounge
I have some ram/processor questions...
I read it was difficult to get "true dual channel memory" if you upgrade after the initial purchase. I'm not sure what this means but is it true? I'm not looking to spend a lot right now so I was thinking of getting 2gb ram now and uprading to 4 at another time since I read before it was easy. Am I better off getting 4gb ram now with the initial purchase.
Can I combine later ram upgrades of a different type with the ram I'll have from the initial purchase?
I saw there are two options for 2gb ram: "~2,048MB DDR2 800 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory" and "~2,048MB DDR2 800 (1 SODIMMS) Memory" Would it be better to do the first option since it's dual channel? But if I did the first, it would take up two slots instead of one, so I'd have to spend more money when I upgraded, right? And if chose the one slot option, is the second slot ready to go if I were to upgrade later or do I have to mess with the second slot before putting in another memory stick?
For the processor, is it worth 2.53 ghz processor over the 2.4? And with the 2.53 is it worth spending the extra 35 bucks for the 25 watt option? And is it even worth getting the 2.4 ghz over the standard 2.26?
The computer will be used for college and gaming.
Thanks!

Re: Sager NP2096 Owners Lounge
there is a small possibillity that when you upgrade your ram that the two diffirent memory stics wont talk to each other and therefore could dual channel be hard to get BUT for 60 dollars you will get 2x2gb and still have money over for a hamburger so you do not really lose anything to wait because in worst case you will have to buy 2 new 2gb sticks which cost the same as the upgrade to 4 gb now

@Captain Picard
The chipset is what supports Dual Channel Memory and it only requires that you have 2 SODIMMs. So to economize, just get 1x2GB now, and then you can add another piece later.
For your uses, and considering your monetary goal, the P8600 is probably your "sweet spot".Donald@PowerNotebooks.com | Phone: 877-711-1777 - CALL US FOR NOTEBOOKREVIEW ACTIVE MEMBER DISCOUNTS

I got it everyone!!!!! I will soon upload a very basic unbox vid and will be working for the rest of the day to get you guys informed on this sweet machine! It is awesome so far and I'll keep you updated and keep this forum open. I'll also be making performance evals after I charge it up. Anyone know how long I should perform the initial charge?
