is this the right place to ask about overclocking? i would just like to play around with a few settings to see how the hardware would respond. since i am currently unable to overclock through the bios, is there a 3rd party program that's better than others i could use to change some clock speeds? or even better, is there a way to OC through a bios hack? i'm pretty handy with desktop machines but have basically no experience playing around with laptop hardware.

yes, but those are all DT cards. In the NB field, the best thing t have is the 2600XT, which is nothing compared 2 the 8800mGTX/GTS.

I think it just boils down to when you're buying and how much market research you do.

Right now, Nvidia is clearly more powerful, and it seems they're having better driver support too (though neither ATI or Nvidia has been keeping up on drivers very well).

But that could always change in the future, like it has in the past. Just do some research when you buy your laptop and choose the best.

I'm only going to say this once since everyone seems to be real up on overclocking.

It's probably best to avoid, or at least be very careful with. Your new Sager can handle any game on the market right now, and overclocking just to get Crysis to go from "High" to "Very High" quality seems kind of unnecessary. Overclocking to get 100 frames in Oblivion as opposed to 80 is also unnecessary.

Probably nothing will go wrong, but it's still difficult to tell what kind of damage you might be causing. Also, does overclocking void a warranty? That's something to look into.

If you want to improve performance I would look at your software settings first. Anyone read TweakGuides? Koroush, the owner there, has probably the best game and operating system guides I've seen.

Read his Vista/XP guide and use it to learn about your system and also speed it up: http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html

Also read his section on overclocking, and after reading that, see if you still want to undertake it.

Whatever you decide, best of luck!

Edit: One more warning, laptops in particular are more fickle than desktops when O/Cing because they're smaller. If you're going to do it though, the Sager/Clevos seem to keep pretty cool at least

I'm planning on buying one of these in a month of two so I've been reading up on them...

Just a suggestion-could you downsize the wallpapers so that you can click for full size because it's breaking tables pretty badly for me (1680*1050 here)
