I have done this. And for what I understand that I am supposed to:

open Device Manager> click on the yellow "?" for the second "unknown device"> click on driver tab> update driver> Install Wizard opens, select from a specfic location> next> select search for the best driver in this location> check include in this search> Browse to find the file where the downloaded driver is> next> ....and it is supposed to install, right?

Well, the problem is that I cant get to the driver (and I wouldn't know exactly what file to use since there is no .exe file). It wont browse down to the file leve, only the folder level. I also am unable to find specfic instructions (like I listed above) for the process.

Can anyone tell me the process and exactly how to do this? ...step by step? ...with out suggesting a search. As I mentioned, I have done many searches and read MANY posts. But for some reason I am missing something.

    THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!

Belay that mine just shows touch/pad touchscreen.
Here is a pic of the Mouse devices in my device manager.

The one with the arrow by it is a USB mouse.

I now have all the Toughbook images for all models I sell both standaard HD's and tweaked XP OS's for SSD's on my server and install via lan. This solves all the probs and lets me install in 10 min or so.
IF you have the CDs that I need, I am very interested. Though I have worked with other members on this forum and no one has them???

I dont know what to do with this thing? I really wish I could find the information need to get it working. I kinda feel like a new driver, surrounded by drivers, but no one will show me how to drive...

Excuse me. I didn't see the digitizer part. Good luck. You have too many mice. EDIT: Un-plug USB mouse and see which one disappears. I GUESS you need the PS/2 mouse for the touchpad and the wacom for the digitizer. All the yellow marks the drivers SHOULD be in UTIL or UTIL2.

    Oh well,

Right click on any mouse. Click properties. There are your drivers to look at.

Pulls soap box over with scraping sound. If you use factory restore disks rather than shopping all over the ranch for drivers you will be amazed. Slides soap box back under the bench.

    G'luck.

Jeff....drivers are in C:/Util or Util2 on all my machines. [start][my computer][c: hard disk] top of my head I'm on Linux. Sorry this is all garbled I have to leave and don't have time to be coherent.

Ok, so let me start by saying I will try to follow ALL instruction to a "T". I appreciate your time and wisdom, and will follow your directions to a fix. Though I ask, can you please provide specfic instructions? I have researched and read threads on this fix, but none seam to solve the problem, and the ones that sound like they fix it, I dont understand. ...sorry i'm new to this. But THANKS for the help.

To date I have done a clean install of XP. I did not use tablet version and had to manually install all the drivers (from panasonic). I have gotten everything working. I followed the instructions, and did "experiements" to get it working where I didn't understand the instructions. I got all the drivers from: Toughbook Computer Support - Search Downloads The issues I have now are If I enable GPS in bios the mouse jumps around, and the rotation/brightness/ect buttons dont work on the front of the computer. I installed all the drivers by extracting them and running the setup file. I did not go thru device manager and direct to the folder with the driver because DM would only go folder deep. I could not get to the file level. The drivers that did not have a setup file, or a file that you double click to run, I didn't load because I dont know how. Everything else seams to be working, just not the GPS and Hotkeys.

    I read this thread;
    CF18 GPS-mouse problem
And as far as I can tell you download the GPS driver. I've done this. But I dont know what the next step is. I think it may be explained, but not in terms I understand. After I extract the file I get 2 files. I cant open either of the files: enableenum and skipenum with anything other than note pad. And when I open it with notepad, it doesnt install and I dont know what to do with it.

I have NO idea about how to get the Hotkeys to work.

Please direct me thru the processes to get these to function correctly.

    THANK YOU!!

This is the way you can install the two patch file for Gps. Double click the file(assuming you already extrcted) and it will display a new window asking you, bla..bla "do you wanna continue" click yes. same on the other file.

for touchpad: On device manager under mice, expand; then point the mouse into PS/2 mouse....then right click, Update driver, it will dispaly another window, choose "not this time" it will dispaly again anther window, choose "install on an specific location" then point it to the folder, driver, mouse, then follow instruction. It it still no worky for you. Choose "don't search i will install specific driver" then "have a disk, then again to a folder where you extracted the mouse or specific file.

Ummmm where are your com ports? Mine has 3 Com and a bunch of BT ports for Toshiba BT.
I would look for the GPS on a com port. Usually Com 3.

    Anyone know what's happening here?

Please open System Devices send a screenshot and let me compare that to my CF-18.

Did you find the UTIL folder? [my computer] [local disk (C ]You should see Docs and Settings, Program Files, Windows and Util.

You have 2 unknown devices just like you are supposed to have with a clean install ,follow closely my guide to resolve those first
GPS is never labeled as such in device manager it is listed under com ports
Since nothing is listed under com ports your gps is currently disabled

That is what I meant but did not say. Where I was going is to tell him to enable GPS in Bios check com port. Then disable GPS in Bios check com ports. The missing Com Port would be the GPS. That sound right?
Should there not be at least one com port?

Not on the digitizer cf-18 as it's missing the 9 pin serial port(Com1) that is normaly on the back of Toughbooks
Com's can also show up for com port B (the docking station com port) and sometimes the dial up modem, and if equipped a cellular WWAN can use 2 to 3 com ports depending if it's equipped with a gps
