I'm not sure which is stock, but you might as well upgrade it to an Atheros based card, which in most cases get far better signal readings.

You won't need to activate it in BIOS, just via drivers. The wireless option in BIOS (At least on the 28's) is for cellular wireless internet.

thanks guys unfortunatly the atheros card for $14.95 got away on me (baby duty) so i won the intel 2100 for $5.00 and the seller is only 50 miles away-weird........djacid i've been running a linksys 54g w/speedbooster pcmcia card for the last year and i'm wired at work. this cf-48 has the 2 anteneas built in, one end beside the caps lock key and the other 2 inches below the right arrow key(semi-rugged book) my port replicator was delivered today $25.00 works great and my 2nd power supply should be here soon $20.00 nice n' cheap on ebay

Good deal on the port replicator. The only way I got mine for $26 was to get one for a CF-27, and modify it a bit. One hour later with the sawzall and my dremel, and my CF-28 sets in place fairly nice.

recived the intel pro/wireless 2100-installed on my lunch works good, windows found it right away with no bios adjustments or switch flipping! i overlooked 1 minor detail: the adapter is from 2003 and is most likely the card the cf-48 came with, but it is "b" only 11mbps-oops-so hit ebay again and learned the difference of 3a or 3b mini pci cards, 3a cards are taller than 3b cards and will not phisically fit in 3b bays (other than size the cards are the same[identical pin out]). cf-48 needs 3b card. did a buy it now for roughly $20.00 to purchase the intl pro/wireless 2915abg most sellers do not state if there cards are 3a or 3b.
