ECS elitegroup g220
Does anyone have any experience with the ecs g220?
It looks like a great computer, but I know that some of the ECS notebooks are rather poorly built(a LOT of problems). Does anyone here have any experience with the g220?

Not this model specifically, but I think there are better ways to spend your money. You might consider posting more details about what you need in the hardware forum.

Re: ECS elitegroup g220
is the g220 out yet? Like you said, ECS doesn't have the best of reputation. Their other latest notebook the 600.. while it does look very nice.. had a very bad review in another forum. The user returned it and got a new one..thinking it was a bad model.. however the other model displayed hte same problems.
There are many many other 12" wxga and xga laptps out there, I think you should play it safe and give those a look.
if you're into ODM brands.. MSI has a great 12" wxga line up, one using P-M, the other is a Turion. Asus has the Z33 (if you like standard ratio).
for OEMs, Dell 700m (with a coupon, is dirt cheap), Fujitsu S6xxx series, and the IBM x32, are some of my picks.PC notebooks with Thunderbolt Port:

Re: ECS elitegroup g220
so what did you decide to buy?
i got one of these the other day from my friend for half of the store retail price since it didn't come with a box, manuals, cd's and had a slight dent. Since it has never been used before (totally brand new just w/o the box), i guess shelling out less than $600 (approx. price converted from local currency) was worth it. it retails at $1,400 in local stores. notebooks have a high mark-up in our country.
specs: Pentium M 735 (1.7ghz), intel 855 chipset, 512mb ddr333 ram, 40gb 5400rpm hard disk, LG 8x dvdwriter.
battery life is around 3hrs without games. glare type screen is great, almost identical to that of the dell 700M. it gets hot beyond 5hrs of use though. overall, i think it's not bad at all. i was able to play NBA Live 2006 smoothly though graphics was worst as expected.
the integrated 1.3megapixel camera takes better pictures than the standard VGA webcams but can easily be beaten by a 1megapixel nokia camera-phone.
one downside, optical drive is noisy when running.

Goren:
It was actually me who had requested a G600 evaluation unit from ECS to determine if I wished to carry the product. I found the build quality to be about the worst I've ever encountered, particularly considering that the same issues were present in two units.Tried and True: Twinhead N15RB - Hand me up to my brother. Re: ECS elitegroup g220
This model from what I discovered in another reviews site is actually a rebranded ASUS notebook. It was the W5A predecessor. I found this information here:
http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?art=1572
If you read it and click on the link for the review of the ECS G220, you will know what I am talking about, but I am not sure if this is true, but you could go to the ASUS forums and ask someone like Justin from proportable or Eddie from Geared2Play if this is true, since they have been selling ASUS notebooks for years.Asus W3V
