I am very aware of this fact when I buy stuff (amazon or otherwise).
In the case of unsatisfactory merchandise, I would expect the customer to learn very soon to stop buying the particular product (by switching to another brand etc).

In the OP's case, you can nicely ask them to reopen the account, arguing that you have only used the return process for camera equipment, and promise that you will not order camera equipment from them in the future.
Unsatisfactory or not, Amazon return policies are quite explicit. Either the product is bad, in which case you get an exchange or refund. Or it's a "I don't like it" where the customer gets dinged with the 15%.

And I just don't like how everyone always comes to the rescue of the COMPANY and rarely ever the CUSTOMER. But just another successful brainwash tactic that I guess has gotten into the minds of the younger generation I guess. Rule number 1 should always be Customer is always right and rule number 2 should be never feel bad for a company.

And just dropping customers like that ends up spreading the word and putting a bad taste in people's mouths. How do they know if the person buying hasn't influenced the purchase of dozens of other products based on that person's buying decisions whether they return it or not?

It just rubs me the wrong way whether OP had the intention or complaint about it or not.

15% restocking fee does NOT cover restocking and shipping. As far as I know, these products are now used, and cannot be sold as new. The retailer takes a huge hit on returns. You are not stocked 50% restocking fee, because the retailer IS absorbing the hit.
So you're saying refurbished or open box products cost 50% less? No, try 10-15% less if that. And if the company doesn't take into account a certain number of returns/exchanges, it's just their mistake.

Well Rule#3 says the customer isn't always right and there are some customers who are out to get away with as much as they can until they are told NO stop it.

This of course comes from a small business owner who has seen the dark side of customers trying get one over on me.

Or maybe its just that the younger generation is sick of the overprivileged attitude of the older generation which doesnt care about consequences and which is responsible for the current depression

From that same page, there are refurbished items selling for 20% MORE than new. So, just taking that "random pick", can I conclude that returned and refurbished items are more valuable?

Whenever a company takes returns etc into account THE OTHER CUSTOMERS PAY FOR IT. The company just transfers the loss to other customers by raising prices across the board.

Pot calling the kettle black. It's usually the kids that have no concept of responsibility, or working hard for what they get. They usually think they know it all, and thinks everybody owes them. Damn whippersnappers.

I know of this dude who used to buy electronics (I think tvs/gadgets) from bestbuy, use them for a few days, and then return them, then repeat the process. He was eventually banned from the store. I think he started doing it to another store.

I know of another dude who used to treat a close by barnes and noble B&M store as a library (he told me so). He would buy books, read them, and return them.

In this economy with superhardtofind jobs?

The older gen is the one who had a negative savings rate, who thought they could live off by continually borrowing against their rising house prices. Who supported the wars ignoring the costs.

I'm not quite sure how this got into a debate about my motives but let me just make it clear that I stated in my OP that I am NOT upset that Amazon has decided not to do business with me anymore. That is their right as a business.

I just want to make sure I will get my refund honored by Amazon after the fact.

I received an email from an Amazon Account Specialist:

    Hello,

I checked on the "Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP Full Frame CMOS Digital SLR Camera (Body Only) " you returned, and it looks like we haven't received the return yet. Once the package is mailed, it typically takes 5-10 business days for us to receive your return from the shipper, and then 3-5 business days to process returned packages after they arrive at our returns center.

Our returns department will then request a refund to your credit card and we'll send you an e-mail confirmation.

Once the refund is processed, we'll send you an e-mail confirmation.

Please do not contact Amazon's Customer Service department, as they will no longer be able to assist you. If you require additional assistance, or have any concerns, you may contact us directly at cis@amazon.com.

    Best regards,

    Account Specialist
    Amazon.com

The package will be delivered tomorrow so hopefully the refund will be processed faster than the quoted ETA Amazon has given me. I'll keep you guys updated!

Well that's...lame. Certainly can see both sides of the issue but Amazon should not be using legitimate RMAs as the trigger for account closures. That I disagree with completely.

@Agent CoolBlue--sounds like they won't quibble on giving you the refund for the outstanding purchase, they just don't want to do further transactions after this one. Glad they're not trying to hang you out to dry on this one. Let us know when they process the refund.

Amazon should at least warn a customer first before banning them.
