When I was living in the NW I remember going to Fry's and you are right it's like Best Buy and Radio Shack rolled into one.

I understand that. I live about 15 miles from a MicroCenter, but even that trip costs me 45 minutes time, and $8 gas. It's not easiest to get to, and unless you go mid-day, it's near one of the busiest street and freeway intersections. It's just easier to order online.

I live about 1.7 miles from MicroCenter and TigerDirect. Fry's is maybe 30 miles away. So if I see an item on Sale in the Fry's Ad and I know MicroCenter has it I will buy it at MicroCenter on price matching. Did that for Win 7 Prof for $99.

The way to buy at MicroCenter is through price matching. When a certain Cyber Acoustics Speaker set went on sale on Newegg for $37 + $17 shipping I printed the web page and MicroCenter price matched it to $37 + tax... Saved more than from buying it from Newegg.

I was just thinking about this very thing earlier today, and I wouldn't be surprised if BB dies too.

Same here, I heard they are closing stores. Nobody can compete with Newegg, Tiger Direct and Amazon. The only upside to Best Buy is if you aren't tech people like us you have a place to go if you get stuck. I got my Asus N55SL from Newegg for about $1200 while BB wanted $1000 for the base model Samsung Series 7 which has the very low end AMD while I have a GT635m. I can play Skyrim and probably Battlefield 3 on this thing, but I couldn't on the BB laptop. BB never has any top end stuff unless you consider the base model Asus G series "top end," which they rarely have in stock around here. If you want a home appliance, you usually go to Sears. If you want an Apple product, you go to the Apple store. BB is really not needed anyway, aside from Geek Squad.

Oh damn. You guys just brought up a great point. If BB dies, that means my dad will NEVER leave me alone. As it is he frequently goes to BB to get his machine looked at and fixed. Please stay afloat BB, PLEASE!

He probably has to keep going back because BB keeps screwing it up. Geek Squad is full of some real ding-bats I tell you. I enjoy trolling them every once in a while just to test their knowledge -- they usually fail.

    #1 reason I don't buy things at BB: $29.99 for a 6' HDMI cable.

Now you got me intrigued. What kind of questions do you ask them?
