God protect us from PC optimizers too. Most of those are absolutely worthless and apply many unneeded "tweaks" that can do more harm anyways. There is always the exception though that lets you tweak things more easily if you know what you're doing and doesn't end up being a resource hog since it doesn't always run in the background. What appalls me the most is most people's unwillingness to learn anything what so ever about computers. Give it a try at least before giving up.

Avoiding BestBuy is a major step in the right direction.

If a friend is shopping and is offered an "optimized" laptop, I point out that it must mean that BB broke the factory seal on the laptop, thus voiding the warranty. Besides their attempts to offer a BB warranty, this usually stops my friends from shopping at BestBuy.

I find it odd how many people here hate BestBuy. It's pretty simple to avoid their ignorant salesperson and still get the better out of their good prices.

Oh so true, i shop at BB for some things, i find most of their personnel in the computer department pretty bad, but there are always good ones although the seem to be a small minority to me. I was laughing pretty hard when they asked me for an ID when i bought gears of war 3 though.

Yeah obviously, but given my age that shouldn't even happen. I mean the game is rated M (17+) and at the time i was 24. 7 years is a pretty big gap if you ask me.

That's why you should shop at your local FutureShop! BestBuy employee are *most of the time* younger and less informed than Futureshop's.

But when you're informed enough to not need any help from the employees you might as well go with those that have the lowest prices.

I do both actually, the Future Shop and BB near me are like 500m apart, so i cross shop when i'm there.
