Take it! Best job that you can take without having full responsibility for what you do but get paid (usually) decently. Fun and good experience.

Oh they all look really fun! In fact I'd be doing real contracts for the firms and get to push them to manufacture That means I'd be doing concrete work which would end up in stores possibly.

The thing is all are unpaid and idk if I'm comfortable not having full time income for the summer :/ (as I would normally work almost full time for most of the summer at my part time job). One of them is also in Toronto so no pay + relocation fees = probably not a good idea. I mean, I keep getting told left and right to get the most experience I can, but at what cost to me is it profitable...? Is 4 month's rent in another city+transportation worth the 4 months of work experience?

I think a good internship even if it's money out of your pocket and if you can afford it, is probably the best form of insurance for at least getting attention for a real job, if not hired by that firm if they like what you do for them.

Tough call though. Hate to see you spend 4 months and thousands of dollars only to have it not make a lick of difference.

I'd say do it, it's great for hands-on experience that can be marketable in the future. You may even get a job offer from the company you interned for.

Well the farthest ones are the most interesting ones IMO in terms of the work since they're nicer firms. Local places are kinda small (office of half a dozen people is the biggest I've seen).

Well if you were online at least you'd have company

I don't really want a job offer from any of the places I've seen but yeah, it's just the prospect of spending money and not making any for a whole summer that bugs me considering I won't have enough to pay for my Fall tuition by myself without working this summer. Oh hello debt here I come?

Oh, yeah that sucks, all engineering internships are paid and usually quite well at that so i tend to forget it doesn't work that way in other domains. When i did mine at XStrata since it was far away (Rouyn-Noranda), they provided a house for the interns with a cleaning lady and a $17.5/h salary. Quite good for a student.

Yeah so I value the experience, I'm just not sure what to do... I mean, it's a bit depressing thinking I'll be working 7 days a week (if not evenings too) if I get a part time job on top of the internship to get cash inflow, but if that's what I need to do I might do that. I'll have to quit my current job though as they want full availability during August which I can't give them.

Oh well, first world problems I suppose

First world problems are the best kinds of problems because they're the most amusing.

Melody: I remember you were getting good grades; so an intership is not needed to value yourself. On the other hand, you might love the experience since it is directly in your field of interest.
So really, do it if you want to. :P

The internship I have currently is actually really boring. ._. Though I don't have good grades.
