Re: *Official* Tablets thread
I think if the Nook Tablet were $199 also... some people would waffle.
It may have not been cost effective, but B&N should have added a little more for that $50 extra. A front-facing camera would have been good to allow for video-chat.Thin, light, hi-res display... and long battery life... where art thou?

Re: *Official* Tablets thread
They do offer double the memory, double the storage space, a memory card slot, and I think a faster processor. So you get a lot of extra hardware for the extra $50.
But for your average user, who reads books, watches streaming video, surfs the internet, and plays some basic games, none of those features add a lot of value. They matter a lot to some users, but to many, none of that really adds anything useful.Modern UI ("metro") tutorial; How to enable Windows 8's built-in start menu

Well, personally, I would buy the Kindle Fire because of the unlocked bootloader. The Nook Tablet doesn't have an unlocked bootloader and if you ever want to get rid of that horrible interface on the Fire and get stock ICS or CM9, an unlocked bootloader is REALLY nice.
The Nook Tablet does have very nice hardware for $249 though.AD NOCTVMMBP 15"

ASUS promises Windows 8 on ARM tablet, 3G Transformer Prime, 7-inch Eee Memo Pad -- Engadget
How similar, I wonder...We're still days away from CES but the promises show no signs of slowing down. ASUS is the latest, hosting a Taipei event in which its representatives rattled off a long list of fabulous devices to whet your appetite. First up is a 3G version of the Transformer Prime, presumably boasting some more capable AGPS onboard. We're told the 7-inch Eee Memo Pad will be on display here at CES as well but, most interestingly, that a tablet running Windows 8 on ARM is coming a little further down the road. It's said to be at least similar in design to the Prime but an indicated release of late 2012 sadly leaves us wanting.
Dual-boot ICS/Win8 Transformer Prime anyone?

Re: *Official* Tablets thread
Exactly.
Cameras are rather cheap to add and could be used for functions many users might find useful (one thing would have it able to capture book bar codes at a B&N and give the user the option to download an ecopy).
Another thing would have been to make it look at least a little different from the Nook Color... sure... keep the corner hook but maybe give it a smaller bezel... or make it *white*.
@HAL: I thought the Nooks were fairly easy to root... or is that just the Color version?Thin, light, hi-res display... and long battery life... where art thou?

I wouldn't buy a(nother) tablet from lenovo. I've been watching the TPT forums, as well as the TPT subforums on lenovo and forum.thinkpads, because I've been interested in the TPT since it came out. It seems they've kicked a lot of their TPT customers to the curb when it comes to post-sales support, and a fair share of QA issues.
