Re: Best Android Apps
I shall embarrass myself with my rust bucket.

Qualcomm MSM 7200A running @ 576Mhz (HTC Magic with 32A chipset)
Android 2.2 (CM6.0.0 RC3, JIT enabled)
Score: 381 (best of 2 runs)
Linpack: 3.917
EDIT: Flipfire I wonder how your score you be if you were running android 2.2 with JIT.

Re: Best Android Apps
Woah. I just got my Samsung Vibrant (US T-mobile). How are you able to get 2300? I just did a full benchmark and only scored around 950+ which is just slightly above the Samsung Galaxy score shown in the result.
To OP: Great topic, I was just wonder what are some of the best apps for android since it is my first android and first smart phone.

Re: Best Android Apps
Only reason im getting high scores is because the SGS has a crazy gpu in it, its nearly faster than a PS2 & XBOX combined in terms of gfx crunching power. See here for a 2010 smartphone comparison

But my vibrant is basically a rebranded sgs. I am on 2.1 but unrooted.Oh, did you happen to apply the "lag fix"?

Re: Best Android Apps
You're aware that those figures have never been confirmed? One Android fan site published them as a rumour and everyone else has just run with it.
Certainly, the Galaxy S family benchmark better than Snapdragon-based handsets when it comes to graphics stuff but nothing that backs up the claimed triangles/sec figures.
Also, you're referencing a comparison sheet that claims the Evo 4G has a front-facing camera that is capable of 720p @30fps and a main camera that can only do 720p @25fps...

Re: Best Android Apps
^ Well ive only read a few articles like this one that seems to say so. Personally id like to benchmark it to confirm but i dont know of any app.
I like this video too:
Yup definitely do the one click lag fix and it will jump to 2000+ and get rid of all the choppiness.
I updated the firmware, rooted then did the lag fix. I got the firmware with the no carrier bloatware.

Re: Best Android Apps
I remember that one
It was debunked. They're using the "Triangle's" per second instead of the proper "Polygons/sec". It lets them get away with astronomically high numbers. The GPU with the Hummingbird in the Galaxy S is:
PowerVR SGX540 (28 MPolys/s, 1Gpx/s@200MHz, Max Memory Band (GB/s) 4.2GB/s)
Not too dissimilar to the GMA500 from Intel or the GPU in the iPad/iPhone 4:
PowerVR SGX535 (14 MPolys/s, 1Gpx/s@200MHz)AD NOCTVMMBP 15"
Dell Latitude E6220
Dell Vostro 3360
Galaxy S i897, i747, i777 | Galaxy Note II | iPhone 4S | Motorola Atrix 4G |

Re: Best Android Apps
I guess your right there.. Futuremark needs to make some 3Dmark android apps soon
Anyway that NOVA game and its pretty good, its similar to Crysis. Its $4.99 here. Backbreaker Football is another good game for $1, it was originally from the iphone.

Re: Best Android Apps
Even ignoring the relative merits of different ways of measuring performance, I'm sure I'd read a few comments/articles etc plain-up questioning whether the quoted figure is even accurate.
Some guy from Samsung supposedly said it performed to this incredible level without any sort of proof, it could be a lie, a mistake, a misquotation. I mean, if it was that much better, wouldn't Samsung have built some sort of statue in front of Apple's HQ already?
Not to take anything away from the Galaxy S and it's siblings, they are still ahead of Snapdragon-based handsets in terms of performance, there's no denying that.
Personally though, I'm holding out in hope of the Dell with the 720p screen.
