Good Review, totally agree. I use the E6420 everyday and it's weight as a carry around laptop is way to heavy. The Integrated Graphics card is weak and definitely not good fro anything that may challenge the graphics card.

The touchpad is another area of contention; the touchpads themselves are both excellent
Has the touchpad changed since the E6400? I found that one uncomfortable to the touch and unresponsive. Felt like I was wrestling the cursor half my time rather than using the computer.

I haven't tried the E6420, but the E6410 has an excellent touchpad.

How would you describe the dell "pointing stick" compare to thinkpad?
Personally I love the pointing stick, but they only offer it in business machines .

Edit: Also, do the top mouse buttons on latitude have clicking sound?

Could you run HWInfo to see which particular model of 900p screen the T420 came with?

We reviewed them both a while ago ... this is just a head-to-head comparison.

As for being retired, a friend of mine was just issued a "new" notebook by his employer and it was a Dell Latitude E6410 ... which hasn't been "new" since 2010.

Product cycles for business PCs aren't the same as consumer systems.

Jerry's right. My 'new' business notebook is a Latitude E5510 ... that came out in 2010 and I think the design was barely changed from the year before that.

Note the clause at the end of the article; a great place to buy these business notebooks is in the outlet stores. People tend to buy them for a long time after they are discontinued.

What about the HP Probook 6450b/6455b...

I was recently weighing up the above 2 laptops and the Probook 6455b, Probook won it for me.
