Not in any noticeable way. Your Alienware has an excellent cooling system and it should be able to stand any CPU/GPU heat from F@H.

Awesome. Your quad-core i7 and 6970M will be a nice addition to the NBR F@H team.

Be sure to let it run overnight as well as whenever it's at your desk. That's what I've done with my laptop since joining in December, even with a 3-week hiatus due to Winter Break.

I installed it but every time I try to add a gpu, it just disappears and I'm left with the cpu. What am I doing wrong?

What are you trying to do?

With a dual or quad core CPU, you'd want to run the SMP client, not the normal one, and you'd want to run the GPU3 client on your GPU (well, someone correct me if I'm wrong about which GPU one to use on an AMD GPU).

I use the command line versions of both, and could hopefully give you ideas if you let me know what's going on.

Heehee, today I have my Playstation 3 running Folding @ Home too, in addition to my G74 and my Dell desktop :-D

Have you tried using the v7 Beta client? I run that and it detects both the CPu and GPU, running them well.

What's the v7 client? I just use the newest command line SMP client for my CPU, and the newest GPU3 client.

It looks like for AMD GPUs you have to use the GPU2 client though? I actually got one of the GPU clients to run on a c50 "APU", though unfortunately it only got to 92% (running 24/7) before the project's deadline, so I gave that up.

I'm already using the beta program. And I had it set to uniprocessor, so I'll change it to smp.
So what do I have to do to get my gpu recognized? I'm still sort of confused.

The OP in this thread might be of some help for the both of you. If you still can't get the AMD GPUs to run, you could possible ask DR650SE about the issue due to his similar laptop setup.

I *THINK* for your AMD GPU, you'd grab that GPU2 client from that page, 6.23 right now.

I personally use the command line versions of both-I've never actually run the graphical version. But presumably you could grab the GPU2 version in either graphical, command line formats, whichever you prefer.
