Dell Latitude E5420: Our Deal of the Week Discussion
In our review, we called the 14-inch Dell Latitude E5420 an "essential business notebook with great battery life, a good keyboard and good performance." The sale unit sports an Intel Core i3-2330M dual-core processor at 2.20GHz, 2GB DDR3 memory at 1333MHz, Intel HD graphics, and a 250GB hard drive at 5400rpm. You can upgrade the CPU to an Intel Core i5-2520M and the display to an HD+ 900p screen for only $140 more. The sale unit is currently going for $479, for $400 off the manufacturer's suggested retail price.

Re: Dell Latitude E5420: Our Deal of the Week Discussion
Just an everyday "sale" price, so it's not much of a deal at all.
Right now an E6420 with the same specs goes for $190 more. By Dell's own numbers, the E6xxx series 3-year mail in warranty is worth $120, so it really comes down to a price differential of $70 between the higher quality E6420 and the E5420.
Personally, I'd advise anyone to wait until the upcoming Ivy Bridge launch. Prices will either come down to clear existing inventories, or assuming that Dell has managed to keep current inventories down, there will be some attempt to promote the updated Ivy Bridge E-series. Just remember there will be a long wait between the launch of Ivy Bridge and the launch of Windows 8, which might not come until late 2012 or early 2013 for x86 systems.
