The World's Fastest Notebook Graphics: The Nvidia GeForce GTX 580M Discussion
The world of high-performance PC gaming is constantly changing as new technology surfaces. The latest gaming monster to rise from the fires at NVIDIA is the new GeForce GTX 580M: the world’s fastest notebook graphics processing unit (GPU). NVIDIA announced that the GeForce GTX 580M is available now in the Alienware M18x and will also be available soon in the Alienware M17x notebook along with NVIDIA Optimus technology.

NVIDIA's claims about performance sure make the GTX 580M and 570M sound impressive. The team here at NBR is eager to get our hands on some notebooks with these new GPUs.
I personally want to find out how much cooling these new GPUs need. Are we going to see notebooks with massive heat sinks and more annoying cooling fans that sound like hair dryers?
I love PC gaming with the latest graphics, but I prefer my notebooks to be "silent and deadly" without a loud fan. I guess we'll have to wait and see what these new NVIDIA GPUs have in store.

Re: The World's Fastest Notebook Graphics: The Nvidia GeForce GTX 580M Discussion
NVIDIA claims those stats mean the GTX 580M offers up to six times the tessellation performance of any other notebook GPU with up to 20 percent better performance per watt than the previous generation. Not only that, but game play tests conducted by NVIDA show that the GTX 580M offers roughly twice the performance of the AMD Radeon 6970M graphics.
You just looked at how long the bars were didn't you?
The ~16-40% lead shown in that chart isn't that much higher than the lead the GTX 485M already had in those games and about the increase I'd expect from the overclock the GTX 580M got.
Also a bit deceiving is the ~20% perf per watt claim. That would only mean games would see up to a 20% gain in actual FPS if Nvidia kept the TDP at 100W like the GTX 485M...but typically when companies highlight "per watt" gains it means TDP was lowered so actual FPS gains in games will be less than 20% in most cases.

anyway it's not like if these chart were not based on overly optimistic previsions

Oh, the best one I've ever seen was a chart from back in 2008 from one laptop manufacturer showing how many notebooks they sell compared to another manufacturer. The bar graph made it look like they had roughly twice as many sales but it actuality they only had about 1.8% more sales.
In any case, I think we're going to see a ton of Clevo resellers announcing GTX 580M and GTX 570M notebooks. We might even have one for review here on NBR in the coming weeks.

The 570M is interesting. Hopefully Clevo adds it.
