Toshiba Satellite E305-S1990X Review Discussion
The new Toshiba E305 is a Best Buy exclusive laptop with a 14-inch screen and a street price around $900. Packed with an Intel Core i5 "Sandy Bridge" processor, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive and a Blu-ray drive, is this the next great family PC? Keep reading to find out.

Re: Toshiba Satellite E305-S1990X Review Discussion
Nice review. The specs are respectable for the price point, especially given a two-year warranty is included. Seagate 500GB hybrid hard drive is also a nice addition. The battery life is excellent for a consumer notebook with a standard battery pack. I've notice the new Sandy Bridge notebooks are putting in noticeably better battery times than previous-gen Intel notebooks. AMD is far behind in this regard ... with the exception of their Fusion processors.
Sounds like Toshiba still needs to improve in the build quality department ... I recall this being a problem with past Satellite notebooks. You can only expect so much out of a consumer notebook.
Only thing this notebook is missing are branded harman/kardon speakers as other Satellite notebooks have. Those sound great (for notebook speakers
).

Thanks for the review and thanks especially for pointing out that
I was wondering if this laptop should have 6 GB of RAM (instead of 4 GB) in order to effectively utilize the power of the i5-2410M Sandy Bridge ?there is no convenient access panel for upgrading the RAM

Considering you can get a base 14" HP Envy for $100 more this seems like its very overpriced.

Re: Toshiba Satellite E305-S1990X Review Discussion
E305 has @ $899 [$100 cheaper]:
i5-SB [2410m], 2 yr warranty, Bluray, builtin 4G access, Intel HD 3000 graphics, 500GB Seagate Hybrid SSD Drive, USB 3.0, longer battery life
ENVY 14 has @ $999:
i5-NON-SB [480m], 1 yr warranty, DVD-Drive, NO 4G access, RADEON 5650, 500 GB NON-hybrid drive, NO USB 3.0
I only mention these features, as I am thinking of buying the Sat E305 (for non-gaming use). I think the Sat E305 is fairly priced, and the above specs offer more "bang for the buck" than ENVY 14 (for me). Only thing I don't like is lack of accessibility on bottom on laptop.
