I'm sure there was a legal/contractual obligation in the fine print for HP's partnership with Dr. Dre and Beats. I can't imagine HP making another company's logo so prominent on one of their own products if they didn't have to.

I still like the looks of the new HP Envy 14 Beats Edition more than the looks of the standard Envy 14.

Edit: Also, please, get rid of the VGA and add HDMI if and when you add Ion.
The Mini 311 already has HDMI in addition to VGA ... at least in every configuration I've seen. Although I like the soft touch black paint option on the new Mini 210 I think I prefer any netbook with Nvidia ION (original version or new version with Optimus) over a netbook that just uses Intel integrated graphics or the Broadcom HD decoder (which forces you to sacrifice the built-in WWAN card).

Oh why oh why couldn't they have launched an updated Envy 15. I totally want the features of the Envy 17 in the 15, like yesterday (hopefully they have dual core i7s, quads are a little too power consuming heat generating)

The dm3t looks great but the processor options are lacking at the moment.

The Beats line is in partnership with Monster cable. So they(Monster cable) are technically making it, and then Dre is put his name on it, which then is being put on the HP Envy line.

Would be interesting to see the AMD Nile platform in a 10" form-factor. I still think the HP dm1z is the best netbook out there, although HP markets it as a notebook. It spanks the dual-core Atom in processor performance by more than a measurable margin, and for the price, is a far better buy than a souped-up 10" netbook.

Read the article on here, regarding the HP Envy 14 Beats Edition and it mentioned standard battery life of 6.5 hrs and an optional extended life battery promising to give you 13 hrs but when I go onto the HP website the battery offered only gets you 3.5 hrs max.

    What is the deal here?!

The poor battery in the regular HP Envy 14 was the reason why I overlooked it in the first place and was considering getting the 17 inch instead.

Does anyone know if you can customize the HP Envy 17 with an i5 instead of an i7? I like the idea of a 17 inch 1080p screen but I really don't like the fact that the i7 chips run so hot. I have had bad experiences in the past with laptops that run hot and fry hard drives!

In the market for a Sandy Bridge i7 in a 17 inch laptop.....maybe even a Android tablet.

I love my Envy14, but I wish there was a black version w/red backlighting available when I went to purchase - I would have bought it instead provided I could still equip it with all the features I wanted (Radiance, 840QM, etc..). However, I could do without the "Beats" branding and headphones. I refuse to pay extra to have an advertisement on my expensive piece of technology and that's how I see a prominent "B" on the lit. Its too bad that Dr Dre didn't choose understated elegance without big tacky symbols all over the place.

On a related note, I wonder if those of us with standard Envy models will be able to buy the red backlit keyboard as a "spare part" and mod it in ourselves? It would give a distinctive look, though it would be much better if the keyboard provided a choice of LED colors instead, like the Alienware models. For that matter, even just red and white would be better to give users an option of which they prefer.

Sorry, I used bad grammar in my post. I just meant I want to see the 210 HD with an Ion and HDMI port (but no VGA, as there probably wouldn't be room). I know about the 311, but they haven't updated it in forever so I've given up hope on seeing a dual core update or design update to it.
