Re: MojoPac "Mobile Desktop" Software Review
A great review Pulp, thanks for sharing your thoughts

The only thing I'm concerned about is the security of the connection.
This phrase :
is a little disturbing. But nontheless the software is extremely good for the users who cannot/don't want carry all their programs around with them.* 30 days of Web based support through www.mojopac.com starting on the date you purchase your license
PortableApps is irrelevent IMO.PortableApps is a set of extremely useful and portable programs .This program makes a connection between your computer or laptop to the host computer and you can work with the host computer's desktop.
Imagine having a huge database at home and wanting to look something up in it.Now, it might not be something that you can carry or want to carry around with a flash drive. While you can do it with the MojoPac.Or think that you have a server at home and want to check some things up while you are away or on a vacation.Again, the MojoPac is going to help you.Thinkpad T400

Re: MojoPac "Mobile Desktop" Software Review
I'm a bit confused about what MojoPac actually does...Is it just VMware on a stick?

Re: MojoPac "Mobile Desktop" Software Review
No, you run the program on you laptop and install the MojoPac server on your desktop at home. Then the program on your laptop connects to the desktop and shows what you would see on your desktop on your laptop screen so you can work with your desktop as if you are sitting behind it.[of course the speed might not be good always. So you might experience some slow feedbacks from your desktop]

Re: MojoPac "Mobile Desktop" Software Review
Are you sure? I didn't see any server installation in the review and the mojopac website also speaks only about installing the software onto some usb device.
I think XP Pro already offers a basic solution for what you described. And Linux also supports remote login quite natively.
In my mind, mojopac is more like alternative to that, if you had your own bootable linux (or Windows embedded etc.) with you on a usb stick, but you don't have to boot the computer, you just need admin rights. Or I'm not sure, but maybe it is possible to run some distros inside a host operating system without booting, and without installing some software onto the host OS first, just run it from your portable drive.

Re: MojoPac "Mobile Desktop" Software Review
This is just another flavor of Portable Apps or U3.
From their website:
andTake your Digital Mojo (your applications, settings and
data) with you on ANY device
MojoPac is a technology that transforms your iPod or USB Hard Drive or Flash drive into a portable and private PC. Just install MojoPac on any USB 2.0 compliant storage device, upload your applications and files, modify your user settings and environment preferences, and take it with you everywhere.
Every time you plug your MojoPac-enabled device into any Windows XP PC , MojoPac automatically launches your environment on the host PC. Your communications, music, games, applications, and files are all local and accessible. And when you unplug the MojoPac device, no trace is left behind – your information is not cached on the host PC.
The "host PC" is the PC into which you plug the USB device containing Mojopac. It is not networking software that will connect the laptop to the desktop across the room.Painless PC Sharing
Every user in your house can instantly have his or her personalized client experience on one PC without altering a single setting or file. With MojoPac, not only can everyone keep their own applications, downloads, files, games, browser settings, MP3s and IM buddies off of the main hard drive, they can take those to any other PC and have the same user experience that they have at home.
Installing applications
In your MojoPac PC view (MojoView), installing applications is similar to installing applications on any PC - simply load the application installer CD/DVD, or download the application installer from the web and proceed as you would on any normal PC.
In fact, in your MojoView, your "C" drive represents your MojoPac device, NOT the Host PC's hard drive. So applications install in the right place on your MojoPac device automatically. And here’s an added bonus: if the application installed on MojoPac asks you to reboot your PC, the only thing you need to do is to log out of MojoPac and log back in. There’s no need to reboot the host PC!
Working on the Host PC: To access and work on the Host PC, simply switch to the Host PC view using the MojoBar. As long as you are in the Host PC View, whatever you do is stored on the Host PC, including any applications you install. The moment you switch to the MojoView, whatever you do is stored on the MojoPac device. What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG).
Copying data: You cannot access the Host PC files and folders from your MojoView. However, you can access the MojoPac contents from the HostView. To copy files back and forth, toggle to the HostView, open up your MojoPac device drive from My Computer, and you copy files back and forth as you would normally do with a storage device.
Good review, but I agree with sc3 - save the $50. The list of games you can supposedly run with the Mojopac is pretty impressive, though.Brent
