Some help Overclocking 9800M GTX SLI
I am trying to Overclock my 9800M GTX's in my M1730 using nVidia Inspector. I can change the core/mem/shaders no problem, have them set to:
Core: 665MHz
Shaders: 1670MHz
Mem: 975MHz
but I can't change the voltage as the option is greyed out. Is it possible to unlock this? Do I need to edit the vBios? What are the advantages to and dangers of increasing the voltage?
Have fans on max and notebook cooler running underneath. No temp problems yet playing COD:BO MP, MOH, BFBC2 on high settings.
Any help would be appreciated or a link to a thread on this topic.
Thanks.

Re: Some help Overclocking 9800M GTX SLI
Hi,
as a previous owner of an xps m1730, i can help a bit.
well not much honestly. you cant edit the vbios on the 9800m gtx, its missing some entry tables for voltages based on the higher p.state.
it will require some hex edit ninja skills, but still the cards cannot take much higher voltages than the one already in there.
in other words, no, you cant overvolt it.
also those clocks are too much high. prolly the cards will not be stable with those.
mines where running at 610/1620/900 without problems, but anything higher would crash the gpu driver.
also my x9000 was running at 3,6ghz.Clevo HM user? Look here for informations on how to upgrade to AMD 7970m.

Re: Some help Overclocking 9800M GTX SLI
Thanks for the reply. I think I'll settle for what I've got now so. I've been running at Core: 665MHz Shaders: 1670MHz Mem: 975MHz for a day or so now. Totally stable, good temps and no crashes.

i think thats the highest oc on those cards i ever seen.
For real ive seen alot of peoples struggling to stay above 620mhz. Hows your cpu clocked?Clevo HM user? Look here for informations on how to upgrade to AMD 7970m.

Re: Some help Overclocking 9800M GTX SLI
I have the X9000 oc'ed to 3.4GHz.
Just using the overclock support in the Dell Bios. Don't know how to oc it higher, not sure if I want to either.
Re-pasted the CPU with AS5 a while ago as I was getting high temp shutdowns when gaming (I did a pretty crap job pasting the first time as it was the first time I'd done it), but now it's perfect, doesn't go over 65-70 in either core when gaming COD-BO.
GPU temps don't go over 60 either.

Re: Some help Overclocking 9800M GTX SLI
Well as kingpen said it wouldnt be stable.
But on top of this, its a laptop.
With a VERY fixed powerbrick.
Meaning what you have is what you get on the voltages.Desktop-- 2600k @5.0Ghz(h100 push/pull) 670FTW 1330/7408
