Default Upload 1.8Mbit Download 0.9Mbit Lan same as WLAN? Please help

hey guys, i have a dell xps 1645 and my download rate suddenly dropped.

im in a network of 3 additional computers via lan, through a linksys router.

my laptop upload rate (from speedtest.net) is 1.8mbit (229kbit/s) and my download rate is 0.9mbit (122kb/s).

all other computers have 1.8mbit upload and 20.1 mbit download.

what happened here? I tried installing latest drivers but nothing worked.

btw: sometimes when i start downloading i have 2-3mbit download but it constantly decreases down to 120kbit/s.

Define download. If you're using uTorrent or anything like it, look into your max upload speeds. It's probably choking your connection.

even with utorrent turned off i dont get the max download i had before. thats the thing.

for reference i download the ubuntu image download from Download | Ubuntu

all other 3 computers download this image just fine 2-3mbits, i only get 120 kbit/s.

strange thing is, when i deactivate lan network, activate it straight after and download the image again, i see 1-2 mbits a second and it constantly decreases down to 120 kbits/s

Sounds like there's some kind of throttling, or perhaps there's a virus or something on the Dell that's hammering your bandwidth. Hit ctrl+shift+esc, check your network usage, see if it's being hammered even if you're not doing anything else online.

It was working a few days ago, I have Kaspersky Internet security 2010 installed. I doubt I did any changes. I even had 1-2 mbit download with utorrent. I have no clue what could be causing this, could my lan adapter be faulty?

I didnt see anything on network usage...

I'm getting more confused.. 1mbit is about 120KB/sec...

Are you meaning 1MByte/sec vs 120KByte/sec? Also, time when it drops. Is the time always constant?

My ISP shapes traffic, newsgroups, I am maxed at 1.5mbit after 5 minutes of 3mbit downloading. Where as web site downloads be it port 80 or 443 It remains at 3mbit the entire time.

This obviously would affect all of your computers not just one. I'd still time it though.

it drops immediately. it starts somewhere near 2-3mbits/s and decreases to 120kbit/s.

all other computer stay at 1-2 mbit/s a second.

only mine drops.... i tried safe mode with network same thing...

I think it was fixed. We added the MAC address to the router and gave it a IP address.

Still my wireless connection is fluctuating between 500kbit/s to 1mb/s, it goes up and down all the time, very unstable when downloading ubuntu image (800MB)

all other computers in the network have a more stable connection that doesnt change as much.... ? how come ?

Have you checked the QoS (quality of service) settings in the router? It's possible that your system is getting lower QoS than the other systems, which would result in the router giving you less bandwidth than the other systems.

Hmm.. that's about the same speed I get on my Droid xD.
    At school however, I get 18 mb/down and 22 mb/up.
So it is apparently something to do with your connection.
