    Default GT60 or GT70?

Hello people. I have a hard time deciding my mind on what notebook I should buy. Its between GT60 and GT70, 0NE versions, with GTX 680M.
They all have different cons and pros, I`m a bit confused on which to get to be honest.

What notebook would you guys have chosen and why?

    GT60:
    Smaller screen, 15.6inch
Very good screen, 95% NTSC Gamut, Anti Glare (Matte)
More hot than GT70. Makes a little more noise too I guess (?)
Doesn`t feature the MSATA Raid0 card
    Cost $300 less than GT70

    GT70:
    Bigger screen, 17inch
Worse screen than GT60, up to 90% Gamut but with Glossy screen (YUCK!).
Cooler than GT60 due to more room for the heat created by GPU/CPU. Probably less noisy too.
    Features the MSATA Raid0 card
    Cost $300 more than GT60

Cloud, as you going for a hi-end gaming laptop, go for the one with 17 inch panel, imo. I would never buy a laptop with 15 inch panel if it's built for playing games.

The extra 1.4" screen is indeed tempting, but so is the 95% gamut screen on the GT60. If only the GT70 had that option
But then again GT70 have the Raid0 card which looks very promising.

I just wonder how big the notebook itself will be compared to my G53. I have always used 15" notebooks. Maybe just a (bad?) habit

Well, you can always install it in the near future (if it will be available, of course), but perhaps you will be satisfied with the stock panel (glossy)

I am in the same boat with you, cos I like everything about the GT70, except one thing (deal breaker) - 120Hz panel. And the m17x has those panels, but the 680m is out of stock!

I guess it really boils down to budget, needs, and personal preferences.

Of the pro & cons you have listed, it really seems to be a matter of cost, and screen differences -vs- mSATA SuperRAID. If you look at 'cost', well you get what you pay for..... and in the case of the GT70 0NE, that extra cost is paying for that mSATA SuperRAID.

Both screens you are looking at are added cost upgrades, and it's a matter of 95% gamut vs 90% gamut. Since I do not believe you will perceive (naked eye) color differences between the two, I'd say this point is a bit moot...... soooooo, it really comes down to a choice of matte surface vs glossy surface. Both screens are bright & vivid, but I'd give a slight edge on clarity to the glossy screen, by virtue of it's pristine surface. Can you live with a glossy surface with the benefit of added real estate (very handy at higher resolutions and gaming), or is the matte screen a must?

If over all performance is a must, again you get what you pay for, and now the mSATA SuperRAID should be a serious consideration. If this is important to you, which now matters more..... that matte screen, or mSATA SuperRAID performance? Seriously, if you opt the matte screen over mSATA SuperRAID, I fear you will be suffering 'buyer's remorse' shortly thereafter.

I look forward to seeing which model you actually buy.

Sorry, but what 1.4" screen are you talking about? Do you mean HDMI 1.4?

The stock screens are 72% color gamut, 'matte' type. BTW, these stock screens do game very nicely, although some complain of grainy appearances in other appz. I am currently using this screen on my GT70 0NE-276US, and it's really quite nice, all things considered.

Since my laptop needs to be somewhat portable, I just couldn't see myself toting a 17.3" behemoth around to occasional lectures or on business trips. I ended up getting the GT60 and so far I'm happy with my choice. Heat buildup and noise aren't really an issue in my opinion.

Well I have been to a local hardware shop today and they had both displayed.

    What I could gather was:
    - The touchpad of GT70 are MUCH better than the GT60. GT60 have a slick surface while GT70 have a more textured surface with a lot better feedback
    - The touchpad keys of the GT70 are much better designed than the GT60. GT70 have two separate keys that are well designed, while GT60 have a single key (plastic that looks like metal) where you press on the right and left of it to emulate two keys.
    - The LED that shows if the HDD is working, if the device is on, etc are right in front of the touchpad on the GT60 so you will be staring at them all the time, while on the GT70 they are hidden more discretely.
    - GT60 doesn`t have the button that disables the touchpad (which is nice while typing)
    - The turbo fan mode sounds louder on the GT60 than on the GT70. I don`t know if its my ears playing me a trick or if the GT70 have a better isolated case than the GT60.
    - There are a lot more glossy surface on the GT70 than on the GT60.
    - GT70 didn`t seem so big after all when I had it in front of me as I thought

These are things that most people probably isn`t aware of

I think I might be leaning toward GT70.

I`ve been using glossy screen for a while now and I got used to it although there are times when the sun is shining on me or the room that I think to myself that it shure would be nice having a matte screen. That 90% Gamut shure sounds nice though, although I`m not shure if I fancy a glossy screen. The stock matte screen looks good too and reviews have said good things about it. As for the msata raid card, its a big pro in my book, although I can live without a raid setup (which have its cons and pros on its own). A single SSD is good enough for me if I have to settle with that.

As for the 1.4": I meant that the GT70 have 1.4" more screen, but I forgot that the GT70 have 17.3", not 17"

Thats a valid point. Personally I won`t be dragging this notebook with me a lot. Perhaps to work sometimes, most its stay home at its desk.
GT60 do look like a compact beast. Keyboard right to the edge, while on the GT70 you have room on both sides where there is nothing

Hmm, does the GT 60 run hotter than a GT 70?

I have no complaints about the touchpad on the GT60. It is somewhat textured and has good responsiveness.

    - The touchpad keys of the GT70 are much better designed than the GT60. GT70 have two separate keys that are well designed, while GT60 have a single key (plastic that looks like metal) where you press on the right and left of it to emulate two keys.
In my experience, the single button presents no issues with actual usage or feedback.

    - The LED that shows if the HDD is working, if the device is on, etc are right in front of the touchpad on the GT60 so you will be staring at them all the time, while on the GT70 they are hidden more discretely.
I've never even noticed - let alone been annoyed by - the HDD light in operation on my GT60.

    - GT60 doesn`t have the button that disables the touchpad (which is nice while typing)
    Fn-F3

    - The turbo fan mode sounds louder on the GT60 than on the GT70. I don`t know if its my ears playing me a trick or if the GT70 have a better isolated case than the GT60.
I've never heard the turbo mode on the GT70, but I can confirm that on the GT60 the turbo mode sounds like an industrial-strength hand dryer.

    - There are a lot more glossy surface on the GT70 than on the GT60.
Aesthetics are a personal thing. Some people like textured surfaces, some people like high gloss. Buy whatever makes you happy.

    - GT70 didn`t seem so big after all when I had it in front of me as I thought
Try opening it on a seatback tray table in economy class, and tell me what you think then.
