I figured since there already is a quad i7 model the x460 it would be okay on the heat. Of course it doesn't have the dedicated graphics. If nothing else ill keep the nvidia off unless I have it on a cooling pad.

It runs very cool with the i5, so i7 shouldn't be more then 10C higher. The i5 in my X460DX never went higher than 76C, so the quad shouldn't go over 90C.

You could run Prime95 and HWMonitor and post a screen shot of the temps.

Regarding upgrading to an i7 CPU, I would wait until the Ivy bridge chips are released, they will be pin for pin compatible with the motherboard (which uses Sandy bridge) but will have a smaller transistor size which will mean the same fast speeds at less power consumption and heat dissipation.

Also, I read that the new x460DX will be equipped with the GT630M which is the GT540M rebadged, the specs are basically the same though clocks may be a hit higher...

    1. We aren't sure they will be compatible with the system bios. They might fit, but they also might not work in SB systems.

    2. The 630M is already out in X460's.

Do you ever find the laptop to be sluggish, seeing it is only a dual core i5?
Nope. It doesn't feel sluggish at all.

    Ah alright.

I'm not sure whether to get this, or the base model MBP 13 inch.

If you plan on gaming at all, don't get the Macbook. It has an Intel HD 3000 video card, which is nice, but not fast enough for even CoD BO.

Plus, if you need Windows you're going to have to pay an extra $150 for it.

My last notebook was a GT780DXR and sadly it had to go. I need another notebook but preferably a thin notebook (under 1") but with a dvd drive. My other 2 options are the Samsung Series 7 (1a) and the HP ENVY 15 (2). This would be option 1b.

Ive been reading the owners board of those two laptops and its real negative. I read through this board and the majority seem to like this notebook. Right now im typing on a DELL Inspiron 600m (lol) and I dont seem to mind the low resolution of 1024x768. So my question is:

Hows this notebook for movie watching? And when I mean movie watching, I mean full 1080p movies. I know it will scale down and stuff but is the experience lacking?

My dark horse choice is a 13.3" MBP. Don't ask me why.
