Re: MSI GT628 with Q9200
1280x800 ultra/high no aa and aniso, no ssao, runs well. Some slowdowns in the park when there are grenades popping around me, but its well playable.

Re: MSI GT628 with Q9200
The 4870 I will soon be selling in larger quantities all seem to have 1ghz ddr3, while I've never seen an Nvidia MXM 2.1 card with anything over 900mhz (and BTW they will all come with it clocked at 800mhz in the vBIOS because its part of the MXM 2.1 spec).

Re: MSI GT628 with Q9200
@Niffcreature
Please PM me about the price and whether you'll be willing to ship one to the Netherlands... I'm working on a deal for a GTX260m but a 4870 would be even better, provided the price is right
Edit: I'd rather a GDDR5-equipped model of course. And although the Nvidia GPU's are at 800MHz max, I had no trouble running mine at 1GHz. Suitable drivers for software overclocking also seem readily available. I'd recommend anyone to try and bump their memory speeds a bit, cause with a 256-bit memory bus the cores on these cards can surely use some extra room to stretch their legs...
@ Kirrr
Does the GTX260 somehow generate less heat than the GT160m? Cause I'm surprised you can run GTA IV with your quad at 2,8GHz in conjunction with the GTX260m, while in my setup I get heat related crashes after about 20 minutes of gameplay with the quad undervolted to 1,1V at 2,66GHz... How come your cooling is doing so much better?
And does anyone know if I can use Nibitor to flash a custom bios to my card? It hasn't worked for me so far. Using afterburner to overclock I sometimes get an issue where the card remains stuck at high 2D mode (400MHz core) both ingame and on the desktop. The only thing I can do to resolve it is reboot.Last edited by Singular1ty; 3rd October 2011 at 05:33 AM.

Re: MSI GT628 with Q9200
Notebook is on the table without the bottom panel, on this:

Temps maxed 80*C after 6-8hours of gaming (GTAIV, Battlefield3 beta and Modern Warfare 2) Usually between 70-77*C as for the cpu but the gtx never goes above 72*C. As I turn off the cooler cpu jumps to 92-95*C and gpu to 82*C. If I'm using it on the go I use Throttlestop to force it to 2.26GHz max at 1.05v (the minimum of the quad). I really hate this quad nowadays. Meaker has a better one so I'm trying to sell this one to a 17incher and get that cool baby.
As for the heat difference between the gts and the gtx. The gts is somehow works more hotter. For example on stock cooling it gets up to 85*C and the gtx simply doesn't. I don't know why.
But the biggest heat source is the RAM for me, right under the right side of the palmrest. If I don't use a cooler its burning my wrist after some heavy multitasking sessions.
I really hope that I can move to another league with the M6400. And minimize the time that I spend on gaming. ( And the money that I spend on upgrades for this nb.)Current Beast: HP Beats6: i7-2670qm@3.1GHz | 6770m 2GB | 16GB DDR3 1333MHz | OCZ Vertex 3 120GB

Re: MSI GT628 with Q9200
Seems I just have a hot chip then. I use a Zalman notebook pad but it's a piece of crap. The fans are ridiculously loud for the amount of air they move and hardly impact my temperatures, I should perhaps opt for a better alternative. Maybe something with exchangeable 120mm fans, since I have a bunch of 2200rpm Yate Loons lying around that should do the trick.
Playing games with the bottom panel on makes the entire system perpetually hover around the 95 degree throttling limit, with peaks to 105 degrees causing shutdowns. I either need to get a cooler quad core or downgrade to a dual core again, but 'downgrade' is such a dirty word... 1,1V is the bottom limit for my quad at 2,66GHz, anything lower gets me random BSODs
For mobile use I lock the CPU at 1,6GHz at 1,05V and it still manages to get to 65 degrees then. I can browse the web via wireless for 2 hours on a single battery charge though.

Re: MSI GT628 with Q9200
This Spire cooler is loud as hell. And my quad crashes at 1.1V on 2.53GHz. So I run it 24/7 on 1.1625V and 2.53GHz rock solid, and if I need more power, goes up to 2.8GHz. But 2.53 is also enough for everything that I play.
For Downgrade: T9900 is not a bad cpu. And it much cooler.Current Beast: HP Beats6: i7-2670qm@3.1GHz | 6770m 2GB | 16GB DDR3 1333MHz | OCZ Vertex 3 120GB

Re: MSI GT628 with Q9200
Yeah I'm after the X9000 of some 17-incher, been poking him to see if he's interested in a trade. If he's willing to pay for the difference in performance my GPU upgrade won't be as expensive either. And cause it has an unlocked multi I'll be able to tweak it to shreds
I do wonder if I'll notice the difference between a dual- and quadcore in-game. I'm probably going to be able to run it at higher clockkspeeds than the quad. So far I've only noticed a slowdown between those two on my desktop running Unreal Engine games, they seem to have proper multithreading support.

Re: MSI GT628 with Q9200
My main project is to trade my system to a Dell, and put the quad in it. I think it will be cooler and don't need any external cooling solution. To run at qx9300 clocks on default voltage. If it can't keep it cool, I'll change it to a T9900.
@Niffcreature: I see that you have a q9200 in an Acer. What's the clocks and the voltage? Thank you.
One more question: If I want to sell this little beast, how much can I ask for it?Last edited by Kirrr; 3rd October 2011 at 01:48 PM.

Re: MSI GT628 with Q9200
Hey there, the 7738G was actually what I ran my Q9200 in (As in that exact machine, I sold it to him):
Up to 2.66Ghz = 1.05v, 2.80Ghz = 1.075v, 2.93ghz = 1.11, 3.06ghz = 1.1375v.

Re: MSI GT628 with Q9200
Is it possible that the voltage problem is not in the cpu but in the notebook itself? I can't get it to run over 2.8GHz. Everytime I get BSOD if I change something.
