    Default gx640 hot cpu!!!

Recently I have noticed my cpu running 5-7oC hotter. While gaming a often reach temps of 90oC and i never used to reach these temps. So i decided to take the back cover off and check if everything was in place. On the cpu heatsink there are 3 scrws and 3 nuts under them that clamp the HS down. However i found that the third bolt "bounces" and goes through the mobo. Do u guys think my high temps are due to the 3rd nut not being fully in place and that the cores do not have full contact with the copper plate? If so do u think i should RMA it or do a home DIY?

Sounds like you hit the nail on the head. The anchor for the third screw has separated from the motherboard. If you can use a soldering gun it's an easy fix.

off the top of my head, go to the frostycomputers youtube channel. There was a video on how to upgrade a gx640 from a i5 to an i7. It'll show you everything you need for getting to your cpu

90C sounds very high, even 80C is high.

When I OC'ed my i5 to 3.3GHz it ran wPrime for 10 minutes and topped out at 72C.

I'd say time for a repaste after you replace the screw.

yea i used to max out at around 80oC after long hours of gaming. My GPU is well cooled however after removing the thermal pads and undervolting.

Wow you're able to get 1100 on Memory after undervolting?

Mine gets disgruntled when it gets above 1060.

    You're running at 1.05V i presume?
