I might take it the track, for fun! Although the Duratec 2.0 is a robust little engine, there are quite a few people running turbo's out there putting out 250ish WHP for years with no issues.

I second that. I have plenty of fun in a 2.5L 4-banger. V8 engines take up way too much gas...plus if you wanted that sort of fun from a car, a V6 will fit the bill just fine (with less gas, too).

I suppose I just don't see much point in trying to "performance tune" an engine that small. You can't and won't keep up with anything else in the demographic you're trying to be a part of. (Other people who are into engine mods, and general "going fast")
While I cannot comment on the focus, I can say with 100% certainty its not engine size/cylinders/displacement that determine performance. I had a 2.0l turbo 4 that go well over 30MPG and could eat cobras, ss camaros, porsche 911s.

I also had a buddy that had a turbo 2.3l SOHC engine in his mustang notchback that would demolish anything that ran slower then 11 seconds flat. Like me he drove it as a daily driver and got good fuel mileage.

While I love v8s and LOVE classic/muscle cars, its not size or cylinders that make fast cars.

My car is fast as lightning, 140HP and 135FT/LBS at the CRANK! I beat Ferrari's and Lambo's and my car is super-duper amazing. It's faster than yours. I'll race you at the strip and win because the car I own, my very own car, the one I own, is the BEST car there is and it is amazing. Amazing.
