to be fair driving a stick in SF with all the hills is a pain in the you know what

Sometimes we let affection go unspoken,
Sometimes we let our love go unexpressed,
Sometimes we can't find the words to tell our feelings,
Especially towards those we love the best

Just bought a new Volvo C30 R-design. Always wanted a hatchback

And yes, it's the Twilight car, but that's not the reason why I purchased it.

Good thing Volvo is a Swedish company and the C30's are made in Belgium

But yeah, I got it with an automatic transmission. There were only 2 C30's left at the dealership, both were auto transmissions. I actually prefer to drive an automatic since this car will be for commuting purposes.

Depends, you'll be mad to buy a luxury German car with Manual Transmission as it's hard work and not as desirable to sell on (my BMW company car has a manual box because my boss didn't read the specs properly =_=). Newer Mercedes-Benz cars comes with the foot parking brake which is a ridiculous invention in my opinion, imagine doing clutch control and using the foot parking brake!

I don't really like doing clutch control on hills with such a heavy car (my BMW convertible is rear heavy) plus if you stall it you:

    a. Get laughed at... (A Nelson "ha ha" moment)
    b. It's a bugger to get going again because of the stupid Clutch + Start/Stop system so you just annoy people behind you because you take ages to get going again.

On the flip side, sporty models definitely feels more satisfying with a manual box.

    I meant automatic European car.

I mean the only BMW's I would buy is like the M3 or M5. I've driven an automatic S4 and a manual one, and the stick S4 is a far better driving experience. Also automatic Porsche? Pfft.

Porsches don't come in automatics. They are either stick or paddles.

Even Top Gear UK admits the C30 is the best looking hot hatchback right now. Good choice!

Early 997's I believe come with Tiptronic...which in my book is an automatic. Ya newer stuff are dual clutch/paddle shifter transmissions but normal driving with those are awful (lurching at low speeds, feels like your car is going to stall out, uneven/choppy acceleration). I drove a friend of a friend's GT-R for about 2 hours, the paddle shifters IMO were okay, but still not so good for normal driving (full automatic was very smooth). For driving fast and the track, the paddle shifters are excellent but you'll never get that clutch feel.
