Replacement wheels
Okay so I've starting to save up for my VH45DE build, and I realize I need to do a big brake upgrade kit as the 240SX stock rotor/pads are TINY. And with my current wheels, there's no way I can fit Z32 300ZX rotors/calipers, so my first goal is probably to get a new set of wheels, the stock SE 5 lugs are kinda small. I've been looking at 350Z wheels, but brand new ones are easily 250+, and 350+ OEM. I've found sets of 350Z wheels with tires for like 300-350 with tires that need to be replaced, or should I just get whole different sets of wheels? My friend has 18" Cobra R wheels, which are like 110-125 ea plus the tires, so it comes close to used 350Z wheels.

Re: Replacement wheels
it's really up to u there. do u happen to know how much the Cobra R wheels weigh? i know 350Z wheels are forged by Rays Engineering, but they are still pretty heavy compared to alot of aftermarket wheels. also, how wide are the Cobra R wheels compared to the 350Z? u'll need some fat rubber back there to handle the extra torque from a VH45 build.

Re: Replacement wheels
Yeah that's another thing I considered, OEM 350Z wheels are HEAVY. I was looking at Cobra R replicas not the originals haha, no way you can get OEM Cobra wheels that cheap unless used and beat to heck. But they are also cheap as many 350Z owners get aftermarket wheels. On the flipside, the Cobra R wheels + tires would only be like 100-150 more expensive over the 350Z wheels but they would be brand new. TBH I like the 350Z wheels look, I hate fancy things. Multi-colored rims, chrome rims, make me want to puke.

Re: Replacement wheels
yeah, i know u were referring to the replicas. i actually have known a few guys that have used Cobra R replicas in their foxbody and 240 builds.
they're both basically the same design so i think u'll be happy with either or. i'd personally go with the Cobra R wheels if they'll only be $100-$150 more. that's really a small price difference when u factor in that u're getting brand new wheels that are lighter and wider. they do come in black as well if u wanted to stay away from the high polish look.Beast!!!: Sager NP8850 - 17.3" LED 1080p Screen - Intel i7-840QM - GeForce GTX 480M - 8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM - 6x Blu Ray Drive - 500GB 7200 HDD - Intel Ultimate-N 6300 - A/B/G/N - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - IC Diamond Thermal Compound

Re: Replacement wheels
I've bought a few sets of wheels from tire rack and I was very pleased. Also if you order tires with it they mount them for free. I just checked and they have 104 different wheels that fit the 240SX in all different weights, sizes, and prices.

Re: Replacement wheels
They're probably more than your budget, but the Nismo 350z wheels are clean and simple:

Probably my favorite wheel for the 350z.

Re: Replacement wheels
Ha dude Nismo anything = $$$. Tire rack is okay, but they only try to fit you the original sizes your car was meant to have. 350Z wheels are 225 front and 245 rear, which is what I am trying to go for. I was looking for OEM Skyline wheels, ridiculous like 1500-2000 PER wheel.

Re: Replacement wheels
what about something like Rotas? there's replica BBS wheels too. alot of wheels to choose from if u're not set on just those few options.
OEM anything will be $$$ when it comes to wheels. i, personally, have never wasted my money on buying more OEM wheels. if i'm going to spend my money i'm going to go for an upgrade. i mean...why not when the upgrade is usually cheaper or the same cost as buying another set of OEM wheels?Beast!!!: Sager NP8850 - 17.3" LED 1080p Screen - Intel i7-840QM - GeForce GTX 480M - 8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM - 6x Blu Ray Drive - 500GB 7200 HDD - Intel Ultimate-N 6300 - A/B/G/N - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - IC Diamond Thermal Compound

Re: Replacement wheels
i swap wheels to buy new tyres, there is invariably someone selling cheap wheels with new tyres, so i sell my old wheels and buy new with good tyres, usually loose about 20 quid, so $32, in the transaction :-) so new tyres for $32 to last the next 20,000 miles. works a charm
i always try to plug for light wheels to, usually OZ over here in europe as they are lighter than anything else, even rotasspace

Re: Replacement wheels
OZ used to be so popular here in the states. now they're pretty rare unless u see them on an older car.
u can get a set of used Rotas with tires for $300-$400 bucks and just throw them around.Beast!!!: Sager NP8850 - 17.3" LED 1080p Screen - Intel i7-840QM - GeForce GTX 480M - 8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM - 6x Blu Ray Drive - 500GB 7200 HDD - Intel Ultimate-N 6300 - A/B/G/N - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - IC Diamond Thermal Compound
