Re: TranStar Racing
I guess a GTR is good for someone who can't be bothered to use three pedals. There is a lot more to having fun driving a car than lap times. For me it is about being smooth, trying to push the car as hard as I safely can, toying with the dynamics, and the car communicating everything to me.
But of course, the OP's discussion is based on straight-line speed. I would not choose a GTR for that. So many better options for the money. Basically get any RWD or AWD sports type of car and throw money at the engine!

Re: TranStar Racing
The GT-R will never come with a 6 speed manual gearbox due to the transmission being at the rear. From what I initially heard, they were attempting a 6 speed gearbox but couldn't make it pass US emissions, which was important for Nissan. I mean ya point in case straight line speed, for under 100k you can soup up a Ariel Atom or buy a cheap SVT Cobra, rebuild the block, twin-charged setup, tranny, bodykit, suspension, brakes, maybe get a 215 mph Cobra.

Re: TranStar Racing
u guys have to remember that "automatic" transmissions have come a long way. especially racing-spec variations. it's impossible for a human being to manually switch gears faster than what some of these trannies are doing. factor in automatic RPM and rev matching and u have much more consistent lap times with a little bit of "less" work.
it's not like we're talkin about a 1969 3 or 4 speed slushbox here...
the GTR is a mechanical marvel. not sure how any can hate on it, at all. that's a TT V6 in there...like the RB26 (Skyline motor) and the 2JZ (MK4 Supra), these 6-cylinder motors are capable of pumping out 1000+ HP @ the wheels.Beast!!!: Sager NP8850 - 17.3" LED 1080p Screen - Intel i7-840QM - GeForce GTX 480M - 8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM - 6x Blu Ray Drive - 500GB 7200 HDD - Intel Ultimate-N 6300 - A/B/G/N - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - IC Diamond Thermal Compound

Re: TranStar Racing
Most people who spend a lot of money on a road going sports car are looking for a lot more than just lap times, so that is where a manual transmission in the GTR can be missed.
As an I6 owner I thought I should also mention that the RB and JZ series engines aren't V6's.

Re: TranStar Racing
again...there u go attacking people to try to look smart...
who said the RB and JZ were V6's...? silly goose. i called them "6-cylinder motors". i know the RB and 1/2JZ are inlines. . .
your whole argument just contradicts itself. OF COURSE, there is more to a car than just lap times. that's exactly why the GT-R was made. the GT-R, like the Porsche 911, is a rare car that can pretty much do it all. u can daily drive it, spank 95.8% of the cars on the road, take a little road trip, and then turn around and let it loose on any track. what are u missing, besides the ability to row through the gears, in a manual transmission? u can just blip/click the paddles a couple of times and u have the same results.
i can see where u're going with your manual tranny argument if we were comparing it to a automatic civic or something.Beast!!!: Sager NP8850 - 17.3" LED 1080p Screen - Intel i7-840QM - GeForce GTX 480M - 8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM - 6x Blu Ray Drive - 500GB 7200 HDD - Intel Ultimate-N 6300 - A/B/G/N - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - IC Diamond Thermal Compound

Re: TranStar Racing
Whether it was by accident or not, you still said it: "that's a TT V6 in there...like the RB26 (Skyline motor) and the 2JZ (MK4 Supra)" And jeez, it's not a personal attack, just clarifying an error, and I only mentioned it because it used to grind my gears when people assumed because my car had six cylinders, it was a V6.
The GTR is a technical marvel. I don't think any other street car has so much technology in it to make it do what it can do. But on the other hand, that is not everyone's cup of tea. All the advanced systems the car has do a lot of the work the driver would normally have to do, and they do a better job than any human could do. But a lot of people find doing all the work themselves to be very rewarding. Unless I'm on a go-kart, in which case there is nothing, the only things I want to leave to a computer is fuel injection, ignition timing, and ABS. And rowing through the gears is something you only do when you drive casually.

Re: TranStar Racing
i feel u on both parts, the mislabeling of engines and the rowing the gears thing. if u quoted the whole sentence, then u can see that i wasn't referring the JZ's and the RB's as a V. i was just grouping them all together as 6-cylinder engines that can pump out 1000+ WHP. i'll accept fault for not being 100% clear. if this were the car enthusiast forum that i posted on, i'd probably try to be a little more clear because the general knowledge of cars is higher over there. i try to keep things a bit more simple over here because not everyone knows the in's and outs of a car like we do.
i've had a Honda S2000 before on 18" Volks, Comptech adjustable suspension, bushings, sways, Clutchmaster racing-spec clutch, and minor engine work. the S2000's transmission is praised as one of the best ever made. there's very few things that can compare to rowing your own gears in a properly set up vehicle that's singing to u at 9000 RPM. a "driver's car" if u will.

Re: TranStar Racing
I love the GT-R, it's an easy to use sports car that can kick most car's tailpipes, plus it costs about $95,000, which is a steal for something that can beat some Ferrari's in a drag race.
