It could be that your charging IC is toast... Do you have light on the charger / charger cable?

You can, but i recommend that you make an image of the HDD and apply it to the SSD, that way your system will be much snappier and you can reuse...

Colleague had the same issue with his 7740, the only real solution that worked was to always have laptop on charger before plugging in the dock.

from what i remember you could always use VGA + HDMI or VGA + DP. That is unless you need more than FHD?...
