Re: ASUS rog G53 with Ubuntu 11,10 AND Debian 6.0.3
That's fine, you didn't uninstall your nvidia-glx package like my guide said

You don't have to, but on the next upgrade it might break.
Just make sure your nvidia installer is extracted and ready to go after your reboot.

Re: ASUS rog G53 with Ubuntu 11,10 AND Debian 6.0.3
Double posting to get your attention (not supposed to but...)
Crap dude. You can't run linux kernel 3.0 or 3.1 on debian squeeze. Sorry about that.
You either have to upgrade to testing (wheezy) or try another distro.
It's an in-place upgrade to get to wheezy, just edit your /etc/apt/sources.list as root and change everything that says squeeze to wheezy. Then do:
apt-get update
and if that goes ok you can do the actual upgrade:
apt-get dist-upgrade
Sorry about that, I should've caught that detail earlier.
Anyway I checked all the git commits for 3.1-rc and there is nothing about asus-wmi or keyboard lights... so while you're better off than before for hardware support, it's not going to fix your main gripe.
If you get on a kernel that's 2.6.39 or newer, you can run this workaround to get the lights on:
G73 and asus-wmi linux driver.... I need *your* help
