Re: Official NBR Linux Team Thread
If it's the LiveCD, then you just need to boot your NB with it, no need for install (you can do it though).

Re: Official NBR Linux Team Thread
Hmm.
Well I'm not going to do anything while I have an essay to write! I might try it as I'm planning to do a re-install anyway.
I have some questions:
My x200m is only supported by omega drivers, do they work on ubuntu?
I have a lot of windows software, Photoshop, Nero, Office, Sibelius I'm presuming they won't work under linux?
How easy is it to install? As easy as windows?
Thanks

Re: Official NBR Linux Team Thread
The fglrx drivers are what will load up for your video. If all else fails the genaric Vesa video drivers will be used. Omega drivers dont work in Linux.
All the programs you listed wont work in linux. But theres a linux equivalent program for each of them.
The install process is pretty easy. The only thing harder than windows would be if you choose to manually partition your disk.Last edited by TwilightVampire; 20th March 2007 at 05:05 PM. Reason: grammar

That should give you lots of information on the ATi driver itself (fglrx).

There's where you can find info on how to install the drivers in Ubuntu. As long as you're running 6.10 (Edgy), the installation should be really simple.

Re: Official NBR Linux Team Thread
You know what? The open sourced Radeon drivers work for the X200. You wont even need to install extra drivers for it, unless you want to use Beryl, or do some gaming.

Re: Official NBR Linux Team Thread
Hey guys - since getting a new hard drive today (160GB 5400RPM) i have installed Linux Mint 2.2 "Bianca." It's pretty nice...and I would say that its even more user friendly than Ubuntu 6.10. Later this week, I'll try out Ubuntu 7.04 in its Beta...things are really looking wonderful for the Linux world.

Re: Official NBR Linux Team Thread
Yeah, some of the menu changes they've made in Bianca are pretty nice. I installed it on a mate's computer, cause I knew he'd ***** and whinge about media codecs and having to touch the command line.
But yeah, 2007 looks like it should be very friendly to the open source mob.
