Re: LG P330 (i7 + Nvidia 555m!)
only if the size of this market is small, which i don't think it is anymore.
If it is a niche market, by definition it has to be small. But if it has grown to a significant level, you can't call it niche anymore.
but once again none of us have any figures on this, i'm just making judgements from general observations, no doubt influenced by my personal tastes.
I did some searching just then. I'll use apple because that's all i could find info on.
Apple have ~90% market share on computers over $1000
(desktops and laptops). How many of those sales went to their 13" laptops, i'm not sure.
Last year out of 2.9million laptop sales, 38% of them were macbook airs. That's 1.1 million macbook airs. (yes a lot of those would be the 11" ones but still a hell of a lot of 13" airs)
Then there are the 13" macbook pros.
Then there are non apple, premium 13" notebooks.
Then there are the non apple, sub $1000 13" notebooks (likely the most significant group out of all 13" notebooks)
Niche? not a chance. The market for 13" notebooks is clearly huge.

Re: LG P330 (i7 + Nvidia 555m!)
I gave you the economical definition of niche im simple terms.
There is a reason that 15 is called mainstream and where most products are released.
Its actually not hard to know the market percentage of a said size, just google it. Im working as always, do the leg workThe cake is a lie, there is only pie, through pie I gain calories, through calories I gain fat, through fat my belt is broken, the recliner shal free me...

Re: LG P330 (i7 + Nvidia 555m!)
Found some data from Q2 2010:
Data Shows Clueless Consumers Favor 15-inch Notebooks, Ruining Market
Interesting article actually. He's basically saying that consumers are too dumb to realise 15" isn't the most appropriate laptop, ha. Probably due to his own personal bias (like mine) of wanting a well priced ultraportable.
Seems like Europe are the biggest "offendors"

So that's fairly low, I would probably accept that percentage as somewhat niche. I would put money that they now represent over 10% of the market.

yeah I too prefer 13'', I found 11''to be too small, and 14''to be too underpowered, and 15'' is just too big.

Re: LG P330 (i7 + Nvidia 555m!)
We have to be careful when interpreting statistics like this. For example, note the high sales of 10" compared to 11" and 12". That's largely driven by the glut of cheap netbooks. But those consumers would probably much rather have an 11 or 12" if those were available for a comparable price.
I guess what I'm getting at is that it's hard to tell whether ~8% of folks buy 13" laptops because only ~8% of folks want 13" laptops, or whether that number is significantly generally depressed by the lack of availability of good, inexpensive options at that size range.

great answer, I agree with you, people are pressed by price, availability, preference: style, power, package.
however 10, 11, and 12 are netbook sizes, there are so few standard pcs in that category that its even hard to see what is the market share of those said machines. The cake is a lie, there is only pie, through pie I gain calories, through calories I gain fat, through fat my belt is broken, the recliner shal free me...

12 and even 11 may be considered standard pcs, but 10 is definitely netbook territory
GOOD NEWS, seems like engadget updated the picture that originally showed the p330 with a release date of Q1 2012 with a new one with a release date of Q4 2011 (New LG P330 laptop has it all: brains, brawn, and beauty -- Engadget)Next: 3rd Generation Sony Vaio Z - Core i7-2720M

28nm is starting at the end of the year/beginning of next along with a new generation of chips including a new architecture for ATI.
All pretty big changes.
That's not even mentioning the new 22nm CPUs from intel.Sales@PowerNotebooks.com | Phone: (US) 877-711-1777 - CALL US FOR NOTEBOOKREVIEW ACTIVE MEMBER DISCOUNTS
