Default Black screen on windows boot? (T1)

We have had our T1 for about 2 and a half months now and no issues until yesterday.

When booting up it went through the LG screen and then the Windows screen(black background) with the blue progress bar running, then it went to a black screen. I recall it always went to a black screen shortly before it went to the blue Windows loading screen (before the login page).

This time it hung on the black screen and after a while there was not HDD activity, so i was pretty sure it hung.

I turned off the comp with the power button (5 seconds or whatever). Then rebooted (selecting normal mode in the safe mode screen that came up). Same thing happened.
Booted into safe mode, it worked.
    Booted normally, didn't work again.
Booted into safe mode and did a System Restore to the day before, it did its thing, then rebooted and it loaded into windows fine.
I'm hoping that this corrected the problem, but does anyone have any idea what might cause this.
-something with the T1 generically or something I specifically did?

    Sorry for the rambling post.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

So this has now happened a second time. I was not home, but to get it working my wife had to do a system restore to a few days before.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this. I would suspect it is something software related because it is getting past the initial windows screen (black background).

If you guys don't have any thought, could you suggest some place to post that would be able to help?
    Thanks,
    David

hey, this happened to me before, I believe it had to do with some sort of boot file being corrupted or something, I defragged, did a disc check and ran recovery console. I have yet to get it happening again.
    Hopefully that helps.

I think it's time for an annual Reinstall of everything.. backup your stuff and install windows and the stuff you use again ... This always helps and should be done at least once a year in my oppinion... There's so many things that can go wrong with a computer, and so many files being left behind even after uninstalleing and updating, and whatever... I always partition my disk to 2 drives. 1 only for windows and 1 only for files & programs .. it will take a couple of hours to install everything again but it's worth it.. Usually the laptop works like brand new out of the box after a clean install ...

another tip, when installing, don't install features and programs you dont use. The more stuff u have, chances are that more things can go wrong.

I guess i'll have to try that. The computer is only 3 months old tho
It has happened a few more times, so hopefully it is software related and that will fix it.
What program would you guys recommend for backing up data?
I've never done a format/reinstall can you guys point me to the thread(s) about that on here?
Also, probably gonna get vista soon, should I make a partition for vista and a partition for xp?

    Thanks all!

check the dummy guides forum for good guides for reinstalling and partitioning.

did you install any new programs or install any new drivers recently?
